- When Firestar, and Sandstorm are trying to rebuild SkyClan, Cherrypaw, a young SkyClan apprentice, suggests to them that they come with her, and meet some cats she knows, who might join the rapidly forming Clan. Firestar accepts her offer, whereas Sandstorm hangs back, and soon, he and Cherrypaw arrive at a Twoleg dwelling, where a kittypet, named Bella, lives. They talk to the kittypet about SkyClan, and invite her to join; but, she declines their offer, saying she would upset her Twolegs, too much; along with miss them, too much.
- However, even though her refusing to join is a severe blow to Cherrypaw, Firestar doesn't think too much of it; for he had noted that Bella had extremely soft, pink pads, which would have made it difficult for her to survive in SkyClan. She also doesn't have the strong haunches that Cherrypaw and the rest of the Skyclan descendants have. When Bella rejects Firestar is almost relieved that she hasn't joined the clan.
