"Bluefur longed to be standing in his paw prints. He had lifted his Clan from anxiety to hope. Imagine being up there, looking down at his Clanmates - the power he must feel. Her mouth felt dry with sudden, raw hunger."

Chapter Description[]

The next day, Bluefur nearly trips over Thistleclaw making her way to her sister with a vole. Snowfur whispers to Bluefur that he had insisted on doing it himself, and adds he was such a loyal brother. Bluefur mutters she'd told her earlier, ignoring the dreamy look in her eyes, and decides never to moon over any cat. Sunfall and Featherwhisker enter the camp, having returned from the Moonstone. Sunfall announces that StarClan had granted him nine lives, and Bluefur and her Clanmates cheer. She notices Goosefeather wasn't joining in.
Sunstar appoints Tawnyspots as his deputy. Rosepaw is thrilled for her mentor, and Stormtail, Adderfang, and others congratulate him. Sunstar then continues that he would like to give Rosepaw her warrior name. Poppydawn hurries to smooth Rosepaw's fur, and Windflight looks on proudly. Sunstar announces Rosepaw would now be known as Rosetail, and StarClan honors her intelligence and loyalty, before the Clan chants her new name.
Sunstar continues his speech, mentioning the kits in the nursery, and that the warrior's den was full. He reminds his warriors that RiverClan and kittypets still press at their borders, before he vows to make ThunderClan as powerful and as remembered as LionClan and TigerClan. He yowls to let him carry them to a new era where ThunderClan was so respected and feared that no cat would dare to set a paw on their land. Bluefur wonders when they'll fight to reclaim Sunningrocks, itching to see the look on Oakheart's. The blue-furred warrior longs to be standing in Sunstar's place, seeing how the tom had been able to lift his Clan to hope. Her mouth feels dry with raw hunger for power. Thistleclaw leans closer to Snowfur, and whispers he would be up there one day. The white warrior purrs encouragingly, though Bluefur plans to get there first.
Tawnyspots orders Thrushpelt to take Speckletail, Fuzzypelt, White-eye and Bluefur to patrol the RiverClan border. He also tells Stormtail to lead Robinwing and Thistleclaw to go to ShadowClan's border. Thrushpelt whispers to Bluefur that he hoped Snowfur could manage without Thistleclaw. Bluefur is embarrassed the whole Clan was gossiping about her sister, and flicks him away. Thrushpelt apologizes, stating he thought she'd find it funny. Bluefur snaps that she didn't, and starts to feel guilty for snapping at the warrior.
At the RiverClan border, Thrushpelt meows that they'll remark it and head back. Speckletail asks if RiverClan will invade again, but Thrushpelt disagrees, and Bluefur asks if Sunstar would warn RiverClan. Thrushpelt replies he hoped their leader would. Bluefur glances at the bank, not finding a single RiverClan cat there. She could imagine Oakheart boasting that RiverClan would've won if he'd been fighting. Caught up in her thoughts, Thrushpelt shakes her out of them, and they head back to camp.
Once the patrol has returned to the hollow, Snowfur asks Bluefur to go hunting with her. Bluefur can't decline, and as they head into the forest, she asks her sister where they were going. Snowfur's reply is a shrug, and she snorts, thinking her sister was dreamier than ever. Bluefur asks if she was happy with Sunstar, stating everything seems different, mentioning Sweetpaw's death. Snowfur softly meows that there was always new life, and meows she was expecting kits. Bluefur gasps, thinking it was early. Snowfur states Thistleclaw was overjoyed, whom had stated that the Clan needed more young ones. Bluefur feels as if Snowfur was farther away then ever, thinking over how her sister would soon be in the nursery fussing over her kits with Thistleclaw. She tries to reassure her that Thistleclaw was good and kind, but Bluefur fails to imagine Thistleclaw kind. Snowfur insists he is a loyal mate, and Bluefur meows that she really was thrilled for her. Snowfur's kits would be her kin, and Moonflower would've been pleased that Snowfur was happy. Bluefur presses her muzzle to Snowfur's cheek, silently promising she would be happy too.
