"Look, it's a lovely day. Whitekit will be fine. It's not like we're going to Highstones. You'll see him again before the sun's moved a mouse-length."

Chapter Description[]

Bluefur walks in the forest in warm weather. Prey is full in the rich forest, and she reflects about how Snowfur had missed being a warrior. Snowfur asked Bluefur why Thistleclaw could carry out his duties, and she'd replied that he was a tom, stating Whitekit would be soon fine without her. Snowfur had sighed, and Bluefur had been frustrated. She is jerked out of her memory with Thrushpelt's voice that calls Goldenpaw praise. Goldenpaw tells Bluefur she'd climb to the top, and is supervised by Thrushpelt. Thrushpelt tells her that Dappletail was with Featherwhisker. Goldenpaw yowls that Dappletail would've never let her climb that high, and Thrushpelt flashes Bluefur a guilty look. Bluefur promises to not tell Dappletail, and they part.
She heads toward the river, and sees a reddish-brown pelt moving. Warily wondering if it was a fox, she realizes it was Oakheart as the tom steps into ThunderClan borders and sunbathes. Bluefur is shocked, and confronts the intruder, hissing that just because they'd won Sunningrocks didn't mean they got to help theirself to any part of other Clans' territories. Oakheart gets up, apologizing that he couldn't resist. Rage chokes her, and Bluefur attacks Oakheart, missing but nipping his leg. Oakheart knocks her over into the river, and she panics, thinking she was drowning. She finds the river was shallow, and stalks onto the bank, spraying Oakheart.
Bluefur tells him to shut up and get off her territory. He cheekily replies that it was a shame to put a lid on a promising friendship, and Bluefur growls to get out. Oakheart crosses the river, Bluefur's eyes following his every pawstep as he disappears into the trees. She leaps over the top of the cliff, where she finds Rosetail. She explains that she slipped and fell, as the bank was slippery. Rosetail states she looked different, looked moony. She asks if it was Thrushpelt, commenting he spent enough time mooning over Bluefur. She's shocked, and when Rosetail questions whether she'd seen Thrushpelt watching her, she snaps no. Rosetail steps back, then hastily changes the subject, telling her that Snowfur had den fever. Whitekit had been chasing Snowfur's tail, innocent looking as she is unable to box his ears because of the charm. Bluefur offers to go visit her sister, and Rosetail agrees.
The ThunderClan warrior notices dog hair, bringing it over to the nursery for Whitekit. Snowfur looks harassed, Whitekit asleep on top of her flank and Frostkit and Brindlekit's tails flicking in her face. Tigerkit asks his mother why he can't go outside. Robinwing answers Tigerkit's endless questions, and Tigerkit grabs the dog hair, stating he was attacking that dog. Tigerkit states he hated the nursery, as it was extremely crowded and it was hard to play. Whitekit wakes up, and he plays the game called 'Kill the Dog' created by Tigerkit. Bluefur suggests they go for a walk, as Whitekit was busy. Robinwing and Leopardfoot state they would protect him, saying they were sick of hearing her sigh. Snowfur climbs out of her nest, and anxiously asks whether Whitekit would be find as they pad along. Bluefur huffs that it was a good day, and that Whitekit would be fine.
