Chapter description[]

Bluefur gently nudges her kits awake, explaining to them that they're going to play a game where they will pretend that ShadowClan has invaded the camp and that they need to escape to Sunningrocks. The kits excitedly follow her out of camp, in awe of the forest, as Bluefur watches the moon rise. Stonekit runs ahead of his littermates as Bluefur nudges Mistykit and Mosskit forward. Feeling a sudden pang of grief, Bluefur explains as much about the forest in greenleaf as she can, wanting them to remember as much as they can of their birth home.
Halfway to Sunningrocks, the kits begin to tire. Bluefur begins to dig holes in the snow, carrying the kits between each one as they draw closer to the border. At the final snow-hole, she curls up with them, attempting to warm them before she realizes that Mosskit has frozen to death. The blue-gray queen feels Snowfur's spirit, coming to collect Mosskit to care for her in StarClan. Oakheart startles her, and she orders him back to the rocks before picking up her two surviving kits.
She explains to the kits that they're going to meet their real father, introducing them to him. Oakheart asks where Mosskit is, as Bluefur stumbles away, returning to Mosskit's body to bury her. As she limps back to camp, she slips back through into her den. She claws a hole in the nursery wall, checking to make sure that her denmates are still asleep before loudly alerting the Clan that her kits have gone missing.
