Chapter description[]
- The chapter begins with Rock telling Mosskit, Adderkit, and Blossomkit about RiverClan.
He talks about how they love to swim and eat fish, and is kind to other clans but as fierce as them. Their battles are fought with heart. They paid their price for an easy life with Twolegs invading the River in Greenleaf to fish. Rock then goes on to telling the three kits about a few RiverClan cats.
Crookedstar[]
- Rock mentions that Crookedstar was leader of RiverClan when Firestar came to the forest. He said when he was a kit, RiverClan won Sunningrocks, and the cats would swim out there just to taunt the ThunderClan cats. However, one day Stormkit played too hard on the rocks, and broke his jaw, being renamed Crookedkit. He knew that a united clan was the strongest, and he knew who the mother of Oakheart's kits were, always, which made him act ignorant about them on purpose. However, he was less welcoming when Graystripe came over the river. He knew his heart laid in ThunderClan, and wanted his kin to be RiverClan through and through. He didn't hide that, and it made him one of the strongest leaders in the forest.
Leopardstar[]
- He starts by saying that Leopardstar was Crookedstar's deputy, because she shared the pride and ambition of all RiverClan cats, but saw him as weak and a fool. When Tigerstar took over ShadowClan, she formed an alliance with Tigerstar to rid the clans of half-blood. She realized her mistake when Tigerstar combined their clans, and made the half-clan cats fight themselves to the death. She did nothing though, afraid to admit she was wrong. However, she joined LionClan to make it up to her clanmates, but has never forgotten how close she came to destroying the clan she loved.
Graypool, Mistyfoot, and Stonefur[]
- Rock starts by stating these are Mosskit's littermates, and it was a loss that Mosskit didn't survive. Rock then says she knew, but didn't care about it. All three of them had their fathers courage, and Leopardstar made Mistyfoot her deputy, and that Stonefur and her mentored Feathertail and Stormfur. When Tigerstar killed Stonefur, Mistyfoot fled to the other side of the river. She came back afterwards. Rock states she will be Mistystar
Silverstream[]
- Rock starts by stating they were Crookedstars' only daughter, and fell in love with a ThunderClan cat called Graystripe. Rock states that she did not want to love Graystripe and was walking on thorns when they met in secret. Rock says you have to choose love or loyalty and he chose loyalty. Rock ends says her punishment was bleeding to death while having her kits.
Feathertail[]
- Rock starts by saying although she was born on the edge of two clans, she was loyal to one. She and her brother were close and deeply affected by Tigerstar's tyranny. They went to ThunderClan for refuge, but came back once it was over. StarClan chose her to go on the quest to find Midnight, and Stormfur went with her. She was a gentle cat, but was as fierce as many warriors. When the Tribe of Endless Hunting saw her, as she was the cat to save them from a mountain lion. She lived a short life, but a brave and honorable one.
Stormfur[]
- Rock starts by saying he was too close to leaving his sister to die, and would in no way let her do a journey alone. He watched her die in the mountains, which made him want to live with the tribe cats forever. However, Storm had the talent of ThunderClan already, and was fit for it's life already. He could not forgive his clanmates, and was more loyal than most other cats. Only Brook trusted him, from being born far away. They were forced out by the tribe to live with the clans by the lake. Only ThunderClan would welcome them back, and even then, the mountains were calling.
Hawkfrost[]
- He is the son of Tigerstar and Sasha, and would never be looked upon in a great light. Sasha brought her kits to the clans because she couldn't take care of them. She came back when the clans decided to go away from the forest, but he refused. Rock mentions he wanted to be the next leader, and was the hardest worker. He was rewarded as deputy, for a short time. He tore off a moths wing to earn respect from his clanmates. Rock says Tigerstar would have jumped for joy when he saw Hawkfrost. He started to visit him in dreams, and said to support Mudclaw. It was Tigerstar's idea to plot with an unknown cat for power, but he underestimated Brambleclaw's loyalty when the lake ran red.
Mothwing and Willowpaw[]
- Rock starts by stating that StarClan is confused by Mothwing but lets her stay because she has heart. However, healing isn't the only issue in the clan, and has to make up fake visions to keep her secret. She was scared her lie was keeping her clan in danger, and confided in Leafpool, who spoke to Mudfur on her behalf. StarClan found Willowpaw as a solution, and was visited by StarClan cats in dreams. Willowpaw respects Mothwing, as she does every other cat. He ends by saying StarClan has acted in everyones' best interest.
