Erin Hunter is the author of Warriors. The name serves as the pseudonym of seven people; Kate Cary, Cherith Baldry, Victoria Holmes,[1] Tui Sutherland,[2] Clarissa Hutton,[blog 1] Inbali Iserles,[3] and Rosie Best,[4][5] and formerly Gillian Phillip.[6] Kate and Cherith take turns to write the Warriors series, while Vicky used to coordinate the whole affair.[1] They are also the authors of Seekers, Survivors, Bravelands,[1] and Bamboo Kingdom.[4] They came up with the name, Erin Hunter, to avoid confusing readers with their books filed in different places in libraries and stores.[1]

Erin Hunter is inspired by a love of cats and a fascination with the ferocity of the natural world. In addition to having great respect for nature in all its forms, Erin enjoys creating rich mythical explanations for animal behaviour.[7]

The inspiration of the pen name, "Erin Hunter":

We wanted these books to come close on the shelves to the Redwall series by Brian Jacques, which is a similar animal fantasy series. So we needed a surname that began with H, I or K, and "Hunter" seemed really appropriate for our ferocious cats (plus it comes right at the end of the H's). For the first name, I just really liked the name Erin, and it had the right Celtic sort of ring to it that I imagined for the author's personality.[8]

Victoria Holmes[]

Victoria (Vicky) Holmes was the editor of the Warriors series. She used to create the plots of the stories, and Kate and Cherith would write them. Holmes was also in charge of maintaining the series and making sure that there's a consistent "voice" across the books.[1] Vicky grew up on a farm in Berkshire, England surrounded by animals with a preference for dogs and hoses. She loved to read and write at an early age, and now works as a children's book editor, escaping to the English countryside whenever she can to ride horses. She has never been adverse to writing gruesome ends to her characters. In 2017, Vicky stepped away from the series to focus on her health.[12]

Along with various books of her own, she's ghostwritten for publishing companies like Hothouse and Working Partners.[18] As of June 2020, she is no longer with the Erin Hunter team, due to her conduct and demeanor, and actions on her public Twitter account. The nature of her comments resulted in her being stripped of her work.[19]
