Erin Hunter Chat 2

This article is not a part of the Warriors universe and is from the real world.

On August 19, 2006, Wands and Worlds members had the opportunity to chat with the three writers behind the Warriors series: Cherith Baldry and Kate Cary, who write the series under the pseudonym Erin Hunter, and Vicky Holmes, who created the concept, develops the plot outlines, and edits the books.

The chat was scheduled for the evening, but members started checking into the chat room early in the afternoon. The excitement started building as Vicky Holmes popped into the chat room to test it out several hours before the chat, surprising several lucky members who were in the chat room.

Information Revealed

On the Characters

ThunderClan

• Only ThunderClan has a full Clan in the allegiances.
• Rainwhisker's and Sootfur's mentors were Cloudtail and Longtail, then Thornclaw, respectively.
• We will find out in the first book of Power of Three if Firestar decides a new deputy.
  • False: A new deputy is decided in Sunset. She might have meant deciding out of Graystripe and Brambleclaw which does happen in the first book of Power Of Three.
• Squirrelflight wasn't using Ashfur to make Brambleclaw jealous.
• Frostfur and Speckletail have probably died and gone to StarClan.
• Dustpelt wanted to be in a relationship with Sandstorm before he chose Ferncloud.
• Longtail plays a significant role in The Sight.
• Brightheart respects Cloudtail's lack of faith in StarClan.
• Cloudtail and Brightheart are Vicky and Cherith's favorite shipping.
• Firestar may have six lives left at the time of of the chat.
  • Unsure: In The Heart of a Warrior, it was not shown if it did, though it is likely it did not.
• Cloudtail still does not believe in StarClan.
• Leafpool is on the cover of Starlight.
• Graystripe has a stripe of darker fur going down his spine.
• Firestar's mother probably does not know about him becoming a wild cat.
• When Bluestar said "blood will rule the forest", she meant that the forest would be overwhelmed by a terrible battle, and everything would be settled by claws and bloodshed, just for a time.
• In the first drafts of the series, Bluestar was named Bluestone.
• Tigerstar's death was the most fun part of Warriors for Vicky to write.
• If Cherith could bring a cat back to life, it might be Whitestorm or Yellowfang.
• Vicky's favorite characters are Ravenpaw, Cloudtail, and Brambleclaw, Kate's is Yellowfang, and Cherith's are Brambleclaw, Dustpelt, and Leafpool.
• If Vicky could be a Warriors character, she would be Ravenpaw, Squirrelflight, or Leafpool.
• Graystripe will return to the Clans and have a trilogy of manga about his journey.

ShadowClan

• Vicky thinks Rowanclaw should have always been female.

RiverClan

• Feathertail is on the cover of Moonrise.

BloodClan

• BloodClan had always lived in the Twolegplace.
  • False: BloodClan was founded by Scourge, Bone, and Brick.
• BloodClan will most likely not reappear.
  • False: They are featured in Ravenpaw's Path.

StarClan

• StarClan does not have a specific hierarchy.

Tribe of Rushing Water

• The Tribe will return in later books.
• The Tribe of Rushing Water will appear in The Power of Three.

Cats Outside of Clans

• Barley and Ravenpaw were still alive at the time of the chat.
• Ravenpaw will never rejoin ThunderClan.
• There will be Siamese kittypets in Firestar's Quest.

Other Information

The Books

• Vicky's favorite Warriors book is The Darkest Hour, as is Cherith's.
• The title for Twilight refers to one cat's life drawing to an end.
• Cherith wrote Forest of Secrets, A Dangerous Path, The Darkest Hour, all of the The New Prophecy but Dawn, which was written by Kate, and Firestar's Quest.
• There is going to be a new prophecy for The Power of Three.
• Secrets of the Clans will not be longer than the regular novels.
• The Power of Three features the new generation of ThunderClan cats, and the first book was written by Kate.
• There will be a list of herbs and ceremonies in Secrets of the Clans.
• Firestar's Quest is set between The New Prophecy and the Original Series.
• Secrets of the Clans will be a field guide for the world of Warriors, and will feature history that hasn't been mentioned in the main series.
• Secrets of the Clans will have black-and-white pictures of the cats and fold out maps.
• It was hard for Cherith to write the ending for Moonrise.
• The Power of Three will be from the perspective of a new generation of cats
• There is a female main character in The Power of Three.
• Vicky believes that the first book of The Power of Three will come out May 2007.
  • False: The Sight came out in April 2007.
• Approximately twelve months passed between The Darkest Hour and Midnight.
  • False: Eighteen moons passed between them.
• No one but Kate and Cherith will write any books in The Power of Three.
• There will be another series of books by Erin Hunter.

Clan Life

• Originally, queens meant any female cat, but this was later changed to she-cats and queens were defined as nursing or expecting kits.

The Authors

• If the authors were Clan cats, Vicky would be WindClan, Kate RiverClan, and Cherith ThunderClan.
• Vicky chose the name Erin Hunter so Warriors could be placed near the Redwall series, written by Brian Jacques.
• If Kate were a Clan cat, she would want to be a leader.
• Kate's favorite books to write and read are The Sight and Twilight, respectively, and Cherith's are either The Darkest Hour or Firestar's Quest and Into the Wild, respectively.
• Cherith and Kate have never met.

Warriors

• There are no plans for a Warriors movie.
• There are no plans for a Warriors video game.
  • False: There will be an online game released Late 2010.
