"Listen—everyone—I know I don't speak just for myself when I say this. Some of us are still loyal to Brokenstar. We might not agree with him. But he's ShadowClan's leader. He's got StarClan's blessing."
— Featherstorm about Brokenstar in Exile from ShadowClan, page 156

Featherstorm is a dark brown tabby[6] she-cat[7] with yellow eyes.[8]

Featherstorm was a ShadowClan elder under Brokenstar's and Nightstar's leaderships and previously served as a warrior under Cedarstar, Raggedstar, and Brokenstar in the forest territories. Featherstorm's first mate was Hal, a kittypet, and she had two kits, Raggedkit and Scorchkit. Featherstorm was made a mentor to Russetfur and later became mates with Blizzardwing and had Dawnkit, Volekit, and Mosskit. Unbeknownst to her, Blizzardwing sired a litter with Hollyflower while they were mates. When Brokenstar became leader, her kits were apprenticed too early, and after Mosspaw's death, Brokenstar forced Featherstorm to retire to the elders' den. She joined the exiled elders under Nightpelt's guidance, and helped Volepaw's injured leg when he faked his death and survived. After her death, she joined StarClan.

Yellowfang's Secret[]

"Toms! I've never found them to be much use around kits."
―Featherstorm to Yellowfang Yellowfang's Secret, page 406
Featherstorm is the mother of Raggedkit and Scorchkit. She is first mentioned in Yellowkit's thoughts shortly after Nutkit calls her son, Raggedkit, a kittypet. Yellowkit thinks about how the Clan elders had been gossiping over who the father of Featherstorm's kits might be. She recalls how they were asking each other if the rumor that her mate was a kittypet could be true, since Featherstorm had often strayed into Twolegplace and that she was never close to any other toms in ShadowClan.
Before the apprentice ceremonies of her kits, Featherstorm is seen following them from the nursery. Yellowkit finds it difficult to sleep that night, remembering how the nursery had been so crowded, though it is more so empty without Raggedpaw and Scorchpaw. She notes that Featherstorm had returned to her warrior duties, leaving Poolcloud, Brightflower, Yellowkit, Nutkit, and Rowankit to be the only cats in the den.
Shortly before the apprentice ceremonies of Yellowkit and her littermates, Featherstorm is seen following Amberleaf, who comes out of the warriors' den, along with Toadskip, Brackenfoot, and Raggedpaw, who had been eating some fresh-kill. Later, the dark brown she-cat is with Cedarstar and Archeye, carrying back prey that they had caught while Deerleap was showing Yellowpaw the territory. After Raggedpelt speaks to Yellowpaw, he goes to join Brackenfoot and Featherstorm outside of the warriors' den. At her second Gathering, Yellowpaw watches Featherstorm, Archeye, and Toadskip pad past her and find a seat within the crowd of cats.
Yellowpaw asks Raggedpelt if he had ever asked Featherstorm who his father was. Raggedpelt replies that he had asked several times, but Featherstorm wouldn't tell him and that she says it doesn't matter, so long as he is loyal to ShadowClan. However, the father of Featherstorm's litter is later revealed to be Hal, a kittypet from the Twolegplace.
Later, she takes on another mate, Blizzardwing, and she mothers Mosskit, Dawnkit, and Volekit. Brokenstar, their new leader, summons the Clan to a meeting, and he demands to know where her kits are, and she replies that they are sleeping as they are unable to catch their own prey. He dismisses that and orders her to bring her kits to the meeting, to which he makes Mosskit an apprentice. Featherstorm is horrified, and her other kits are jealous, but Brokenstar promises that it will be their turn when they are old enough.
Mosspaw is accidentally killed in a training session by Brownkit and Wetkit. Featherstorm is devastated, and when Runningnose fetches her, she stands while staring at Mosspaw's body. Then, she flings her head back, yowling her grief and asks Yellowfang how he died. Brokenstar then decides to take on Volekit as his own apprentice, stating that he owes it to his brother to give his sibling such an honor, and Dawnkit is apprenticed too, being mentored by Blackfoot. Volepaw soon dies afterwards, succumbing to an infected wound.
Brokenstar suggests to her that she should move in with the elders since she had done the Clan a huge service by being a mother twice and serving them well. Featherstorm gazes up at the ShadowClan leader, her gaze confused, and Yellowfang wonders if she expects him to acknowledge her and Brokenstar are kin. Despite this, the brown tabby nods silently, much to Yellowfang's dismay, then stumbles through the clearing and vanishes into some brambles.

In the Novellas[]

Blackfoot's Reckoning[]

Featherstorm's mate, Blizzardwing, is revealed to have had an affair with Hollyflower. This resulted in the birth of Hollyflower's three kits, Blackkit, Fernkit, and Flintkit. Featherstorm does not know about the actions of her mate, and Blizzardwing is fearful of the secret getting out. Blackpaw wonders what would happen to Blizzardwing or Hollyflower if Featherstorm discovered what happened, and promises to keep the secret from the other she-cat.

Exile from ShadowClan[]

"I know this...this situation we're in here is...it's new, and strange, and none of us know how to deal with it. But we're all still ShadowClan cats, and we look after each other. Maybe you can't be there for your kits right now, but...Featherstorm, you can help me protect our Clanmates here. Do you think you could do that? Help me make this a place where we can all survive through leaf-bare?"
―Nightpelt attempting to encourage Featherstorm Exile from ShadowClan, pages 38-39
After the death of her son Mosspaw, Brokenstar forces Featherstorm to join the exiled elders. Nightpelt and Archeye discover her in the forest and bring her back to their camp. Hollyflower comforts Featherstorm, and Featherstorm sits in her nest wrecked with grief and worry for her other kits, Dawnpaw and Volepaw. Nightpelt asks Runningnose if there's anything he can do to help her but he do anything to stand up to Brokenstar. Nightpelt attempts to encourage Featherstorm to focus on helping the others survive through leaf-bare, but she ignores him.
While hunting, Nightpelt spots Volepaw and Dawnpaw, Featherstorm's kits, in a battle patrol to attack WindClan. He lies to Featherstorm that he didn't see them, but Featherstorm wishes to wait and see if they return alive. Nightpelt sits with her, and Ashfur brings news that the apprentices survived the fight. Featherstorm starts to contribute in the camp by hunting, much to Nightpelt's delight. Featherstorm later sits vigil for Poolcloud after her death.
When Clawface and Runningnose bring an injured Volepaw to Nightpelt's camp, Featherstorm rushes to her son. She sits her with her son and helps him recover from his leg injury. When a ShadowClan patrol raids their fresh-kill pile, Featherstorm hides Volepaw in the den so he's not seen. She welcomes Brightflower when she joins the group after the death of her kits. When Nightpelt urges the others that they should fight Brokenstar to save ShadowClan, Featherstorm is against breaking the warrior code. After Brokenstar's defeat, Featherstorm and the other elders rejoin the camp.
