Lizardtail is a light brown tom.[1]

Lizardtail is a RiverClan warrior who has served under Mistystar's, Owlnose's, Tigerstar's, Duskfur's, and Splashtail's leaderships in the lake territories. As an apprentice, Lizardpaw was mentored by Reedwhisker following the Great Battle. After earning his warrior name, Lizardtail gained an apprentice of his own, Foxnose. He also fathered Lakeheart's kits, Harekit, Softkit, Gorsekit and Dapplekit. Lizardtail was sent on a patrol to bring SkyClan back to the lake and mentored Fognose. After Mistystar's death and Reedwhisker's disappearance, Lizardtail insisted that his former mentor will return, though held doubts about the whole conflict. Three of his kits died in their adulthood—Dappletuft by the impostor, Softpelt in battle, and Harelight by Splashtail—leaving Gorseclaw as his last remaining kin.

History[]

In the A Vision of Shadows arc[]

The Apprentice's Quest[]

He is now a warrior by the name of Lizardtail and mentor to Foxpaw. His mate, Lakeheart, has also given birth to his kits, Harekit, Softkit, Gorsekit, and Dapplekit.

Thunder and Shadow[]

Lizardtail's apprentice, Foxpaw, has become a warrior named Foxnose.

The Raging Storm[]

During a large storm, cats from all Clans volunteer to try and convince SkyClan to return, so that it might stop. Lizardtail goes with his Clanmates Willowshine and Icewing as they follow the trail back to the gorge. The patrol comes across an overflowing stream, and they debate how to cross it. Willowshine notes that even RiverClan cats likely wouldn't be able to swim through, glancing at her Clanmates.
The patrol finds a tree that spans the length of the stream, and crosses over that. Lizardtail follows Hootwhisker across, and the others follow behind them. He and his Clanmates keep trekking for the rest of the day with those from the other Clans, then find shelter in a cave. They continue to follow SkyClan's trail, and catch up to the Clan and rescue them from the floodwater. As they work, Lizardtail and Hootwhisker get swept away in the water as their bridge collapses. The pair manage to haul themselves out of the water and onto rocks. Willowshine rescues Lizardtail and Hootwhisker, and once out of the water they shiver on the bank to get warm. At the next Gathering, Lizardtail calls out that every Clan must help SkyClan by giving up some territory.

The Silent Thaw[]

Lizardtail is now mentor to Fogpaw.

Veil of Shadows[]

After his son, Dappletuft, dies while trying to usurp Bramblestar's impostor, Mistystar announces at a Gathering that RiverClan buried Dappletuft like a rogue without a vigil. Lizardtail and his kits huddle together and mourn silently for their loss. Later, his daughter, Softpelt, dies in a battle between the Clans and his son, Harelight, is banished from RiverClan.

Darkness Within[]

Lizardtail, Gorseclaw, Reedwhisker, and Willowshine attend the vigil for the fallen warriors, including Lizardtail's kits, Softpelt and Dappletuft. This triggers a discussion between Rootspring, Harelight, and Icewing about Mistystar's absence at the vigil, noting she had allowed Softpelt and Dappletuft's kin to come at least.
Later, Lizardtail and Mallownose guard Ashfur's prison in ShadowClan's camp when Tigerstar, Alderheart, Frecklewish and Hawkwing confront Ashfur for being able to leave Bramblestar's body at will. Ashfur mocks Tigerstar that he couldn't since he's been under guard the whole time, but Hawkwing and Tigerstar attack him, Lizardtail and Mallownose watching. At a Gathering, Lizardtail asks about the ghosts the Sisters summoned and if they were their former Clanmates, to which Rootspring replies they were present. Lizardtail advocates for Ashfur's death and follows the Clan leaders to witness his execution.

In the A Starless Clan arc[]

River[]

His apprentice Fogpaw is now a warrior named Fognose. After Mistystar's death and Reedwhisker's disappearance, Mothwing orders Lizardtail and a few others to search for him. When the Clan argues who should be leader in his absence, Lizardtail insists that Reedwhisker will return home soon but few cats listen to him. While on a patrol, Hopwhisker from ShadowClan injures her paw in Twoleg rubbish, and Sunbeam asks Lizardtail and Nightsky if they can help them. She notices that the two appeared to be having a tense conversation with Nightsky being upset about something before she interrupted. Lizardtail and Nightsky are uneasy, but allow Hollowspring and Sunbeam to bring Hopwhisker over. However, they stop the ShadowClan cats before they can enter their camp, and Nightsky fetches Mothwing and Frostpaw for them.

Sky[]

While journeying to RiverClan for catmint, Sunbeam recalls Lizardtail's and Nightsky's odd behavior from before. Frostpaw later reflects about who should be leader and briefly thinks about Lizardtail.

Shadow[]

Following the battle for RiverClan, Lizardtail questions Owlnose's decision to step down as leader. Lizardtail's anger towards Owlnose increases when he later attacks Owlnose after the two toms argue who should repair the warriors' den, resulting in Sunbeam and Lightleap pulling them apart. Later, Lizardtail fishes with Splashtail by the river when Icewing, Breezeheart, and Harelight arrive with their apprentices.

Thunder[]

At the truce meetings with Tree, Sunbeam spots Lizardtail and Owlnose searching for fish.

Wind[]

Splashtail mocks Lizardtail to pick up the pace during a rigorous battle training session. Later, Splashtail kills Lizardtail's son, Harelight, and Lizardtail lets out a wail of grief.
