"Mosspaw is big and strong. He'll be fine."
Flintfang about Mosspaw in Yellowfang's Secret, chapter 36

Mosspaw is a big[5] brown and white[6] tom[5] with very pale blue eyes.[7]

History[]

In the Super Editions[]

Yellowfang's Secret[]

Mosskit is born to Featherstorm and Blizzardwing, along with his siblings Volekit and Dawnkit. When Brokenstar calls a Clan meeting, he asks Featherstorm where her kits are, telling her to fetch them at once. She protests, responding to him that they had just gone to sleep, that and they aren't old enough to catch their own prey. Despite her objections, Brokenstar orders her to get them. Featherstorm does as she's told, and gathers her kits. Mosskit and his siblings are brought out, and noted to be sleepy.
Yellowfang tells Brokenstar that Mosskit isn't old enough to become an apprentice, but he cuts her off saying it was his decision. Featherstorm reluctantly prods the kit awake, and he steps forward, looking uncertain. Brokenstar announces him as Mosspaw, announcing himself as his mentor, and the little tom looks startled, yet proud. Mosspaw participates in a training session with the other kits while Brokenstar supervises, but Brownkit and Wetkit get the angle wrong on a double-attack move and they kill Mosspaw. The kits are sent back to camp and Yellowfang brings the dead apprentice back.

In the Novellas[]

Blackfoot's Reckoning[]

Blackfoot laments over Mosspaw's death, feeling sick to his stomach whenever he recalls the young apprentice. Blackfoot thinks to himself that he knew these cats were too young, and knew that from the moment that Mosspaw broke his neck in a training accident. Blackfoot tries to reassure himself, saying that these kinds of things could happen to any cat, but the guilt still eats away at him. He knew that he needed to listen to Raggedstar, though, because that is what Clan cats do that separates them from rogues.

In the Stand-Alone Graphic Novels[]

Exile from ShadowClan[]

In ShadowClan's camp, Mosspaw looks excitedly onward with Littlekit, Dawnkit, and Volekit. Later, Featherstorm is forced to join the exiled elders after Mosspaw's death during a training session, and Featherstorm heavily grieves his death. When Nightpelt comes across a battle patrol, he is shocked to see Volepaw, Dawnpaw, and Littlepaw with them since they're also too young to become apprentices just like Mosspaw was. Featherstorm fears for her kits' safety due to Mosspaw's untimely death.
