"I don't care. I've made up my mind. Being a kittypet is easier. And safer."
— Parsleyseed to SkyClan about being a kittypet in Hawkwing's Journey, page 352

Parsleyseed is a dark brown tabby tom.[2]

Parsleyseed is a kittypet and former SkyClan warrior under Leafstar's leadership on the journey to find ThunderClan. He was born in the gorge in Sparrowpelt and Tinycloud's first litter of kits along with his sister Pebblekit. He later became an apprentice named Parsleypaw, with Rabbitleap assigned as his mentor. As an apprentice, he proved able to hone his fighting skills and participated in a battle in the gorge against the Kin. Parsleypaw retained a close relationship with his sister during his training, supporting her wherever possible. The day SkyClan left the gorge, Parsleypaw earned his warrior name, Parsleyseed, alongside his sister Pebbleshine. When Pebbleshine was taken by a Twoleg monster during the journey, he grieved her disappearance. After several moons of traveling and constant dangers, Parsleyseed adopted a positive mentality towards the ease of life while cared for by Twolegs. Shortly after, he left SkyClan to become a kittypet, followed by Curlypaw a few days later.

Hawkwing's Journey[]

Curlypaw: "Parsleyseed is right; it's easier and safer to be a kittypet."
Hawkwing: "You've been visiting Parsleyseed?"
Curlypaw: "Yes. I went to Parsleyseed's new home first thing this morning and talked to him. I met his Twolegs—Parsleyseed calls them ‘housefolk'—and they were very kind. Parsleyseed says he has all the delicious food he can eat, and his housefolk let him out whenever he wants, except at night, because then it's his job to guard the Twoleg kit. He thinks he can convince his Twolegs to take in another cat, and I—I want to go!"

Pebbleshine

As a SkyClan cat, Parsleyseed maintains a close relationship with his sister, Pebbleshine.

Parsleypaw is a SkyClan apprentice being trained by Rabbitleap. When his sister, Pebblepaw, gets caught in a fire with fellow apprentices Duskpaw and Cloudpaw while trying to eat Twoleg food, she is saved by Ebonyclaw and Hawkpaw and brought to the Clan's medicine cats. As Echosong tends to Pebblepaw, Parsleypaw, and his parents Sparrowpelt and Tinycloud, settle down beside the younger she-cat to comfort her. Later, when Leafstar calls a Clan meeting to discuss Echosong's prophecy, Pebblepaw and Parsleypaw poke their heads curiously out of the apprentices' den, then bound down to the bottom of the gorge and sit close to the edge of the river. Echosong's prophecy is to find the spark that remains when the fire burns out, and when a rogue named Darktail joins the Clan, he tells them the directions to find ThunderClan in the lake territories, which is how SkyClan interpreted the prophecy. A patrol is sent out to look for ThunderClan using his guidance, and as they are about to leave, Parsleypaw is one of the cats that pad up to say goodbye to them.
After the unsuccessful return of two patrols that look for ThunderClan, Pebblepaw bounds to the bottom of the cliff where Parsleypaw is waiting for her in camp. During the battle against Darktail's group, Pebblepaw, Parsleypaw, Bellapaw, and Rileypaw bundle out of the apprentices' den to assist their Clanmates. Hawkwing snaps that the fight is no place for apprentices, but the four young cats fall in behind him, and the warrior is impressed by their bravery. After SkyClan is forced to retreat from battle and give up the gorge, they meet up in Ebonyclaw's garden. When Pebblepaw arrives, she excitedly greets her brother. A Clan meeting is held the next day to decide SkyClan's next move, and Leafstar decides that they will leave the gorge and look for ThunderClan. The next day, Leafstar calls the Clan together again, beckoning with her tail to Bellapaw, Rileypaw, Pebblepaw, and Parsleypaw.
Leafstar

Parsleyseed is proud to receive his warrior name from his leader, Leafstar.

The four young cats step out of the crowd, excitedly exchanging glances. Leafstar announces that they Clan needs every one of their warriors, and they walk closer to her upon being summoned. Leafstar first asks Rabbitleap, Parsleypaw's mentor, if he thinks his apprentice is trained well to be a warrior. The brown warrior replies that he is ready, and after Leafstar confirms the same with the other mentors, asks Parsleypaw if he promises to uphold the warrior code and protect the Clan even at the cost of his life. The apprentice firmly replies that he does, and the leader names him Parsleyseed, stating that StarClan honors his loyalty and courage. She rests her muzzle on the new warrior's head, and he licks her shoulder in response, before stepping back to stand beside his mother and father. The Clan acclaims his new name, cheering for the new warriors of their Clan. However, over a moon into the journey, Parsleyseed's sister, Pebbleshine, is taken away by a Twoleg monster while hunting, which he grieves.
A half moon later, SkyClan finds territory by a lake, which Hawkwing notices thrills Parsleyseed, as the younger warrior thinks it must be the place that Echosong dreamed about. The Clan splits up into patrols to look around the territory and hunt, and Parsleyseed is in a group with his Clannmates Hawkwing, Macgyver, Birdwing, and Curlypaw. Together they head down into the valley and look around for prey, and the brown tom yowls in triumph after catching a plump rabbit. The warrior announces his catch, suggesting that they all share it. Hawkwing praises his Clanmate on his work, and the cats share it once the patrol returns. About two moons later, the SkyClan cats get chased by dogs. When the whole Clan is gathered together again, they discuss the dogs and complain, though Parsleyseed and Macgyver point out that there is prey and good territory where they are at. The brown warrior points out that Twolegs are better than raccoons, though Echosong contradicts the younger tom and tells him that he has not lived long enough to see the evil Twolegs can do.
Hawkwing

The apprentice of Hawkwing (pictured) leaves SkyClan to join Parsleyseed as a kittypet.

One night, Parlseyseed announces that he must tell the Clan something and hesitantly blurts out that he will leave to be a kittypet. The cats around him protest, and Leafstar inquires why her warrior wishes to leave them. The brown tabby confesses that he is always scared about the constant dangers and sticks firmly to his decision. Parsleyseed tells them that he met some Twolegs that live nearby that serve him nice food, petting him in a way he likes. Though slightly ashamed, Parsleyseed remains defiant as Hawkwing remembers the warrior slinking off alone into the woods several times over the last half moon. The former daylight warrior Macgyver explains that being a kittypet is not easy, as they have little freedom, and the Cutter. Though Parsleyseed feels brief concern, he dismisses it and stays firm with his decision to leave. While Leafstar is hurt, the leader wills that StarClan light Parsleyseed's path. By the following morning, the young tom departs SkyClan permanently.
A few days later, Curlypaw privately informs her mentor Hawkwing that she has decided to join Parsleyseed as a kittypet, and that she has visited him to see the good treatment they afforded their former Clanmate. Hawkwing is shocked, but listens to his apprentice's argument that it is easier and safer to be a kittypet. Curlypaw mews that her former Clanmate thinks she can convince his Twolegs to take in another cat, and affirms that she wants to go, which he grudgingly accepts. The next morning, Curlypaw and Hawkwing pad out of camp together, and she makes sure that he will give her the chance to get to Parsleyseed's Twoleg nest. After a last farewell, Curlypaw crosses the stream and disappears into the ferns, while Hawkwing contemplates that she is racing towards her new life with Parsleyseed. When Hawkwing returns to camp, he tells Leafstar and her deputy, Waspwhisker, that he thinks they should leave the lake, due to the dangers and young cats being lost to Twolegs.

Personality and relationships[]

Parsleyseed: "I don't want to betray any cat, but—"
Leafstar: "Why, Parsleyseed? What makes you want to leave us?"
Parsleyseed: "I'm scared all the time here. The territory is full of dogs and Twolegs…"
Sparrowpelt: "So you want to go and live with Twolegs? That's really smart of you!"
Parsleyseed: "It's not like that! I met these Twolegs—they live in one of the dens by the Thunderpath—and they started to put food out for me. I tried it—and I really like the taste! And I let them stroke me, and I liked that, too!"

Pebbleshine

Parsleyseed deeply grieved Pebbleshine's disappearance during Skyclan's journey.

As an apprentice, Parsleypaw retains a close affinity with his sister, Pebblepaw, and his parents. When Pebblepaw gets hurt, Parsleypaw rushes to comfort her.[5] He acts bravely during the attack on SkyClan's camp by rogues, gaining the respect of many of his Clanmates for his willingness to fight.[6] By the end of his training, Rabbitleap feels that Parsleypaw will make a good warrior for the Clan and supports his apprentice when Leafstar makes him a warrior names Parsleyseed. The newly minted warrior feels strong devotion towards his Clan, deciding to embark with them on the journey to find ThunderClan while some others stay behind.[7] During his warrior ceremony, Leafstar remarks that she considers him loyal and courageous.[8]
As an older cat, he grieves the loss of Pebbleshine when she is taken by Twolegs but supports SkyClan as they journey to find the other Clans at the lake territories.[9] He eventually comes to find joy in simple pursuits such as hunting, enjoying the time spent with his Clanmates.[10] However, as moons goes on, Parsleyseed adopts a very positive mentality towards Twolegs. He decides that he enjoys their affections, and chooses to leave SkyClan to pursue being a kittypet. Though much of his kin and Clanmates are angry at the decision, Parsleyseed feels strongly that this is the path he wishes to take, not wishing to fear for his life and endanger himself constantly. Though he feels some shame in the decision, Parsleyseed eventually follows through with his word and becomes a kittypet, much to his family's chagrin.[11] Curlypaw, who visits Parsleyseed in his new den, agrees with the tom's logic and decides to pursue the same future.[12]
