The Fourth Apprentice

Rainstorm sees Ivypaw, a new ThunderClan apprentice, sniffing at a dead fish in the dried up lake. He thinks that she is going to eat the fish, which is RiverClan's main prey. Furious, he charges forward toward her, almost attacking her, not knowing there is a mud hole in front of him. He falls into the mud hole, and is deeply buried into the mud before Lionblaze helps him out using Jayfeather's stick. Cinderheart scolds him for scaring such a young apprentice. Thornclaw and some other cats want to keep him prisoner in their camp, only giving him back to RiverClan in exchange for some of their fish. Firestar disagrees, and decides to let him stay in ThunderClan camp because he is exhausted, until sunset so he can travel in the cool of the day back to RiverClan.

He seems a bit ungrateful for his rescue, but Brambleclaw says it is only natural, as cats don't like admitting they need help from others. Brambleclaw talks to Mistyfoot, and Rainstorm claims that they kept him in their camp, and wanted to only return him to RiverClan in exchange for some fish. Brambleclaw corrects him, saying that they allowed him to stay in camp, and tells her their side of the story about how they found Rainstorm. He is left with Mistyfoot as the ThunderClan patrol leaves.

The following information is from sources considered non-canon or retconned.

• In Su Susann's "Missing Kits" on Vicky's Facebook, Reedwhisker and Swallowtail were mates and Rainstorm and Mintfur were their sons. His mother named him after Rainwhisker, who Swallowtail was friends with during the Great Journey. He was also described with bright blue eyes.
