"But look at ThunderClan, for example. That whole mess they got into with Ashfur and Bramblestar. Of course they would think they need a way to get rid of a leader. But that would never happen in RiverClan, because you are a true and just leader, Mistystar, with StarClan's blessing!"
— Shimmerpelt advocating for Mistystar in River, page 60

Shimmerpelt is a silver-gray[5] she-cat.[1]

Shimmerpelt is a RiverClan warrior who has served under Mistystar's, Owlnose's, Tigerstar's, Duskfur's and Splashtail's leaderships in the lake territories. She mentored Nightsky. After Darktail's treacheries traumatized RiverClan into closing their borders, Shimmerpelt fiercely defends the borders even against their allies. She and Mallownose rescued Softpaw from the fire that raged through their camp. Shimmerpelt participated in the battle against the Sisters, and later stood up for Mistystar when she was questioned by the Clan. Following her leader's death, Shimmerpelt advocated for leadership.

History[]

In the A Vision of Shadows arc[]

Thunder and Shadow[]

Shimmerpelt is now mentoring Nightpaw.

Darkest Night[]

"There's no way we're letting you reach the camp."
―Shimmerpelt to the medicine cats Darkest Night, page 120
Shimmerpelt is part of a border patrol consisting of herself, Duskfur, and Sneezecloud. The RiverClan cats confront Jayfeather, Alderheart, Puddleshine, and Kestrelflight, who claim that they need to speak to Mistystar, Mothwing, and Willowshine. The medicine cats tell RiverClan's patrol that they need to deliver a prophecy sent from StarClan to RiverClan's leader and medicine cats. Shimmerpelt hisses, telling Jayfeather and the others that the border surrounding RiverClan is closed, meaning no cat is able to cross it.
The silver she-cat hisses and says that there is no way she is allowing any cats to cross RiverClan's border in order to reach their camp. When Kestrelflight speaks, she curls her lip, and wants to know if WindClan has become a real Clan again. Kestrelflight brushes the comment off, and tells the RiverClan she-cat that WindClan has learned from Onestar's mistake, and that Harestar is their leader now. Shimmerpelt and the others threaten to chase Kestrelflight and the other medicine cats away, so they decide to leave without causing a fight.

River of Fire[]

"What do you think you're doing? Let me remind you that our border is closed. Now kindly leave the watermint where it is, and get lost, or I'll call up reinforcements."
―Shimmerpelt to Alderheart River of Fire, page 51
When ThunderClan and WindClan cats approach RiverClan's border to collect watermint, Shimmerpelt and Havenpelt approach the patrol. The former orders them off RiverClan territory, due to their borders being closed. Sparkpelt retorts that they're on WindClan territory, and therefore don't need their permission. The RiverClan cats don't want trouble, and Alderheart suggests that he talk with Mistystar about the situation. Shimmerpelt and Havenpelt step away and discuss this, and eventually the black-and-white she-cat says he can come, but the warriors must stay behind. Sparkpelt protests, but Shimmerpelt comments that RiverClan respects medicine cats. Alderheart insists it'll be okay and travels to their camp with the two cats.
They lead him further down the stream, and keep pace while on the other side. They approach a spot in the stream with a stone in the center, and Shimmerpelt asks if this is crossable for him. Alderheart says yes and jumps across, and they walk to RiverClan's camp. Once there, Havenpelt directs the ThunderClan tom to stay put while he fetches Mistystar. The RiverClan leader agrees that they can collect watermint, but tells him to be mindful next time that her borders are closed. Havenpelt and Shimmerpelt escort him back to his Clanmates, and stand guard at the stream until the ThunderClan and WindClan cats are done gathering watermint.
When RiverClan is escaping from the fire in their camp, Softpaw is stuck in the middle of the flames. Twigpaw helps her cross the log to safety, and Shimmerpelt and Mistystar comfort the apprentice. However, the ThunderClan she-cat falls into the water, so Shimmerpelt and Mallownose swim out and rescue her. They pull her to shore, grabbing hold of her flanks.

In The Broken Code arc[]

Darkness Within[]

Shimmerpelt is at the Gathering where Squirrelflight announces that the impostor is Ashfur. She agrees with the rest of RiverClan when Squirrelflight tells the Clans that one of their warrior ancestors has come back to hurt them. Later, Mistystar brings her and Willowshine to SkyClan for the Sisters' attempt to summon Bramblestar's ghost. The Sisters manage to summon many ghosts of the Clan cats who died in the battle for ShadowClan, but some of the ghosts seem hostile, as if they want to attack the living cats. Shimmerpelt raises her hackles defensively and looks warily around the camp, scanning the shadows for an enemy they can't see.

A Light in the Mist[]

"I thought StarClan believed that loyalty is at the heart of a true warrior. What's loyal about choosing a mate from another Clan?"
―Shimmerpelt at the Gathering A Light in the Mist (book), page 329
At the Gathering, when Tawnypelt states that she thought that would be the end of the Clans, Shimmerpelt adds that it nearly was. Later, Mistystar brings up how StarClan wanted the Clans to discuss any alterations that should be made to the warrior code, specifically about the rule that does not allow cats from different Clans to become mates. Shimmerpelt objects to this, claiming that although StarClan believes loyalty is a necessary characteristic in a true warrior, becoming mates with a cat from a different Clan is anything but loyal. She also remarks to Rootspring's loyalty, as he is a Light in the Mist.

In the A Starless Clan arc[]

River[]

"And are we supposed to sit around on our tails, waiting until he does? Meanwhile, I'm happy to act as leader—"
―Shimmerpelt about Reedwhisker's disappearance River (book), page 123
When some of her Clanmates challenge Mistystar for changes being made to the warrior code, Shimmerpelt stands up for Mistystar's leadership and notes that what occurred in ThunderClan would never happen in RiverClan. Following Mistystar's death, Shimmerpelt mourns her leader. She disagrees with letting the medicine cats lead with Reedwhisker's absence and instead advocates for herself to lead, which leads to an argument amongst the Clan.

Sky[]

Frostpaw: "What about Shimmerpelt or Icewing? I thought they'd want to take charge."
Splashtail: "Me too. Especially Shimmerpelt. She's been a warrior forever. And Icewing leads patrols better than any cat in camp."
—Frostpaw and Splashtail about the other warriors Sky, page 36
Following Curlfeather's death, Shimmerpelt and the other older warriors are lost without direction despite Shimmerpelt's status as an experienced senior warrior. Frostpaw wonders if Shimmerpelt is hesitant of the responsibilities of leadership. When Frostpaw announces Owlnose as leader, Shimmerpelt mutters that it is an unexpected choice. When Owlnose and Frostpaw return from the Moonpool, Shimmerpelt is the first to greet him. She questions Owlnose's choice as Splashtail for deputy since he's inexperienced. When Owlnose stumbles organizing patrols, Shimmerpelt questions his decision to hunt in the water meadow since she had hunted there that morning. Shimmerpelt questions why Owlnose is in charge when Mothwing is still the one organizing patrols. When Tigerstar and his warriors arrive in their camp, Shimmerpelt and Duskfur stand off against them. When Duskfur attacks, Shimmerpelt fights against Spireclaw. Sunbeam grapples her off her brother though she eventually pushes her away. She eventually escapes the camp through the reed wall into the river.

Shadow[]

"Tell him to keep his paws out of your business."
―Shimmerpelt to Frostpaw about Tigerstar Shadow (book), chapter 7
Following ShadowClan's victory, Frostpaw looks after Shimmerpelt's shoulder wound. When Icewing announces that Frostpaw can't communicate with StarClan, Shimmerpelt agrees with Havenpelt and Brackenpelt that Tigerstar is pressuring Frostpaw to step down. When Scorchfur ingests a mouse with a thorn in it, Shimmerpelt explains to Frostpaw what happened.

Thunder[]

At an emergency Gathering, Sunbeam spots Shimmerpelt looking uneasy around the ShadowClan cats.

Wind[]

"Shimmerpelt, I'd have slashed open your throat by now—and you'd deserve it."
―Splashtail mocking Shimmerpelt Wind, chapter 4
During a rigorous battle training session, Splashtail goads Shimmerpelt to pick up her pace.

In the Super Editions[]

Bramblestar's Storm[]

Reedwhisker: "Stop! What are- Oh, it's you! We thought you were rogues."
Dovewing: "Thank StarClan, you survived!"
Shimmerpelt: "Only just."
—The ThunderClan patrol encounters RiverClan Bramblestar's Storm, page 162
Shimmerpelt and Reedwhisker meet Dovewing and Bramblestar on patrol. Reedwhisker yowls at the ThunderClan cats to stop, but soon apologizes, remarking that he thought the cats were rogues. Dovewing thanks StarClan that RiverClan survived the flood, and Shimmerpelt replies that they had only barely. Soon after, Reedwhisker tells Mistystar that the ThunderClan cats were at their camp and Mistystar comes out to meet them.

Squirrelflight's Hope[]

Bramblestar: "StarClan knows what they're doing. If they want us to turn toward them, then we will."
Shimmerpelt: "And what if they don't answer?"
Squirrelflight: "Perhaps we haven't been hearing their answers. We should try harder to listen."
—Shimmerpelt questioning StarClan Squirrelflight's Hope, page 415
Her apprentice, Nightpaw, is now a warrior named Nightsky. Shimmerpelt participates in the battle against the Sisters. She fights off Furze before Sunrise calls for a retreat. At a Gathering, Squirrelflight reveals to the Clans that StarClan wants them to listen closely, and Shimmerpelt wonders if StarClan would say anything.
