"Are you going to let him tell me what to do?"
— Skyheart to Leopardstar about Tigerstar's demands in Leopardstar's Honor, chapter 30

Skyheart is a lithe[9] pale brown tabby she-cat[7] with green eyes[10] and torn ears.[11]

Skyheart was a RiverClan warrior under Hailstar's, Crookedstar's and Leopardstar's leaderships in the forest territories. She was born as Skykit to Piketooth and Shimmerpelt along with her brother Blackkit. She gained a foster sibling in Leopardkit after her mother, Brightsky, died soon after kitting. She became an apprentice named Skypaw with Softwing as her mentor and soon earned her warrior name, Skyheart. She later became mates with Reedtail and mothered a litter of kits. After her death, she ascended to StarClan.

History[]

In the Super Editions[]

Crookedstar's Promise[]

«Skykit was leading the search party. Ottersplash's kits, less than half a moon old, were following her as if she was Clan leader.»
—Crookedjaw about Skykit and the others looking for Blackkit Crookedstar's Promise, page259
Skykit is born to Shimmerpelt and Piketooth. She is one of the more adventurous kits, often leading the other kits to play games and attack the older cats. When Brightsky falls ill and three of her kits die, Skykit and Frogkit try to sneak out of camp and to see if Brightsky and the kits were really dead, but Crookedjaw catches them and sends them back, however Brambleberry arrives and sarcastically says that kits never snuck out of camp, reminding the warrior how often he had snuck out as a kit. Skykit says that she believes that StarClan never really let kits die, but Brambleberry gently tells her that StarClan does let kits into its ranks, and that they're happy there.
When Crookedjaw asks if Lakeshine and Shimmerpelt will wonder where Skykit is, she says no, because they're too busy feeding Leopardkit, the only surviving kit of Brightsky and Mudfur. Brambleberry tells her to fetch water for her mother so that she'll be proud of her for helping Brightsky's kit.
She receives her apprentice name, Skypaw, and is apprenticed to Softwing. She is seen running in circles, and Owlfur teases Softwing about her apprentice being a pawful. Later, she receives her warrior name, Skyheart.
When Timberfur organizes patrols, Skyheart hurries from the warriors' den with Reedtail, followed by Blackclaw. She is put on a fishing patrol with Reedtail and Echomist. They are told to head upstream because there had already been a hunting patrol near Sunningrocks.

Leopardstar's Honor[]

"You only get special treatment because Brightsky died. If you hadn’t killed your own mother, the rest of the Clan wouldn’t even bother with you... I heard your mother was sick when you were born. What could have made her sick? Probably a rotten kit, that’s what! ... You’re going to end up in the Dark Forest with all the other murderers."
―Skykit bullying Leopardkit Leopardstar's Honor, chapter 1
Skykit plays hide-and-seek with the other RiverClan kits, objecting to Leopardkit's request that Shimmerpelt help enforce the rules. Sedgekit counts, and Leopardkit spots Skykit scanning the clearing for a hiding spot. She manages to hide beside the apprentices' den, but Leopardkit exposes her location when Sedgekit is about to catch her. As a result, Sedgekit finds Skykit and asks her to help find the others, but Skykit casts a furious glance at Leopardkit.
When they begin a new round, Leopardkit worries the others will be upset with her, but Skykit appears friendly. The tabby kitten whispers to Leopardkit that she knows a good hiding place, bringing her to the edge of camp. Before Leopardkit can object to getting so close to the river, Skykit shoves her head under the water, letting Leopardkit struggle before allowing her to get up. Skykit asserts that that was punishment for giving her hiding place away, and as Leopardkit protests, Skykit berates her and claims that she and Blackkit only play with her because Shimmerpelt tells them to. Terrified, Leopardkit says she'll tell Shimmerpelt what Skykit had done, but Skykit tells her to, as only newborn kits tattle. Furthermore, she claims that Leopardkit murdered her mother as she was a rotten kit and will end up in the Dark Forest. Leopardkit avoids Skykit in the days after the incident, but thinks she sees guilt in the she-kit's eyes while the other kits play together.
As an apprentice, Skypaw, Sunpaw, Leopardpaw, and their mentors train to fish in the river. Softwing calls to her apprentice, telling Skypaw to face upstream and keep her head high. Leopardpaw observes that Skypaw feels comfortable in the water, and the older apprentice calls out for Leopardpaw to hurry up. However, Leopardpaw hesitates due to Skypaw having nearly drowned her, and she wonders bitterly if Skypaw even remembered what she'd done. After they return to camp, Skypaw dozes outside the apprentices' den; Blackpaw teases Leopardpaw for being a drypaw, claiming that Skypaw told him she wouldn't even get her belly fur wet. Sunpaw chastises Skypaw for telling him, but Skypaw protests, saying that he asked how training went.
Later, she and Blackpaw clear old bedding from the elders' den. Sharing a carp with her denmates, Skypaw muses about what she'll do as a warrior, bragging that she'll volunteer to lead patrols. They discuss the struggle over Sunningrocks, and Skypaw says that Reedpaw wanted to take Sunningrocks back if he were leader. Leopardpaw accuses her of having a crush on Reedpaw, which Skypaw affirms, complimenting his looks and claiming he'll be a great warrior. Sunpaw replies that Beetlenose is more handsome, causing Skypaw to ask if she likes him. Skypaw asks if Leopardpaw likes Frogpaw, noting that they seem close and that he's cute.
When a battle patrol returns from Sunningrocks, Skypaw questions why Mudfur had to fight alone against Adderfang. She comforts Leopardpaw when the she-cat worries about her father's injuries. When Mudfur reveals that he has decided to become a medicine cat, Skypaw murmurs that he must have his reasons. Softwing calls Skypaw over to help clear out the warriors' den, but Skypaw asks if Leopardpaw will be okay before joining her mentor.
During their warrior assessment, Hailstar assigns the apprentices to catch land prey, and Skypaw stalks a squirrel on a branch jutting out over the river. However, the squirrel gets away and Skypaw falls into the river, but easily swims to shore. Leopardpaw says it was bad luck, but Skypaw argues that catching land prey was a stupid assignment. Leopardpaw offers Skypaw one of the voles she had caught, but Skypaw doesn't want to be accused of cheating.
They split ways, and when the other apprentices arrive in camp, Hailstar asks where Skypaw is. Leopardpaw says that they should delay their naming ceremony until Skypaw can retake the assessment, which Blackpaw protests against. She finally returns, but without prey, stammering that she nearly caught a squirrel; however, Hailstar is not satisfied. Softwing defends her apprentice, saying she had excellent technique, but Hailstar is still unfazed. However, lead by Leopardpaw, the other apprentices agree to wait for Skypaw to pass her assessment, though Skypaw says she doesn't want to hold them back. Soon, Skypaw receives her warrior name of Skyheart alongside her denmates.
Skyheart stumbles sleepily out of the warriors' den when a border patrol is assigned to go to Sunningrocks, though she is not chosen. Afterward, when Whitefang is killed in the resulting skirmish, Skyheart joins his vigil. Later, she returns to camp after a border patrol lead by Leopardfur.
Some time later, Skyheart asks Leopardfur to go fishing with her and Blackclaw, though the spotted she-cat declines, angry after an argument with her father. Skyheart is surprised but allows her to go, mentioning that Blackclaw saw a massive fish. Soon after, Leopardfur hears Skyheart's shriek coming from the river. She finds Skyheart attempting to drag an injured Blackclaw from the river, and as Leopardfur dives in to help, Skyheart warns her that there's a pike in the water. Skyheart swipes at the nose of the pike that tries to drag Blackclaw under the surface, and on Leopardfur's orders, she holds onto her brother while the spotted she-cat attacks the pike. Once they drive off the pike with the help of Whitepaw, Skyheart asks if Leopardfur is okay. Skyheart and Whitepaw carry Blackclaw to the medicine den. She returns from the den trembling, but informs the Clan that Blackclaw should be all right, and praises Leopardfur for saving him.
Skyheart cheers for Leopardfur when she is made deputy after the death of Oakheart. Later, Leopardfur assigns Skyheart to repair nests with Frogleap and Loudbelly. When Crookedstar recovers from illness, Skyheart says that RiverClan is blessed. When Nightstar arrives in RiverClan camp, Skyheart wakes up Leopardfur. Allied with ShadowClan, Skyheart joins the attack on WindClan's camp, scowling that with their greatest ally gone from the forest, ThunderClan may stop sending spies onto RiverClan land. Though WindClan appears defeated, two warriors arise and attack Skyheart.
After Birdsong's death, Skyheart joins a patrol with Leopardfur, Stonefur, and Piketooth to find what poisoned the river; however, they are initially unsuccessful. Later, Skyheart goes fishing with Leopardfur, Frogleap, and Loudbelly, remarking how strange it is that Leopardfur used to be a drypaw. Skyheart catches a chub; however, the fishing trip ends tragically as Frogleap is taken by the current, drowning. Skyheart yells for Leopardfur to get out of the river as she tries to save him. Skyheart comforts Leopardfur, assuring her that she tried her best. Skyheart explains what happened as they carry his body to camp.
When the river floods and carries away Mistyfoot's kits, Leopardfur assigns Skyheart to catch land prey with Reedtail and Heavystep. After her return, she brings a wet mouse to Mosspelt. Moons later, Skyheart, Graystripe, and Stonefur return to camp bloodied after a run in with rogues, who had attacked a ThunderClan patrol. Mudfur applies a poultice to Skyheart in the medicine den.
Soon, Skyheart joins Mosspelt in the nursery, expecting Reedtail's kits. However, she refuses to eat the mouse her mate brings her. Leopardstar asks if she's sick and needs herbs, but Skyheart admits that she just doesn't like eating stolen prey, and wonders if they're making ThunderClan go hungry. Leopardstar angrily tells her that it's her duty as a queen to eat to support her kits and give the Clan healthy warriors. Tigerstar notices Skyheart's reluctance and forces her to eat the mouse. Tigerstar tells Leopardstar to prevent Skyheart from eating for the next few days to teach her a lesson. As Tigerstar brings more of his warriors into camp, Leopardstar believes Skyheart to be among the cats who appreciate the extra defense. When Tigerstar constructs the Bonehill, he claims to have gotten the idea from Skyheart's refusal to eat the mouse.
When Tigerstar calls TigerClan to the Bonehill for the execution of the half-Clan cats, Skyheart is the only one left in camp, and tells Leopardstar that she doesn't know why she wasn't brought too. Later, Skyheart stays in the RiverClan camp to be taken care of by Mudfur and a few other warriors while the rest of ShadowClan and RiverClan shelter at the Bonehill after Tigerstar's death. Skyheart's kits are nearly due, and Mudfur reports that the queen is doing fine.

In the Novellas[]

Mothwing's Secret[]

Skyheart: "Are you all right? Hawkfrost was pretty rough."
Mothwing: "I'm fine. I'm used to my brother's games."
Skyheart: "Hmm. You were moving kind of slowly."
—Skyheart confronting Mothwing Mothwing's Secret, chapter 2
Skyheart is a queen caring for a litter of kits. After Hawkfrost initiates a play-fight with his sister, Mothwing, Skyheart moves from watching her kits play to confront the tabby she-cat, asking if she was all right. Mothwing insists she is fine, though the RiverClan queen is skeptical, noting that Mothwing was moving slowly. Mothwing begins to explain that she was tired from patrolling with Mistyfoot, but is interrupted when several warriors enter camp to report that Blackclaw is stuck in the mud.
When Leopardstar calls a Clan meeting to announce Mudfur's discovery of a sign, Skyheart and Dawnflower poke their heads out of the nursery, Skyheart's kits crowding around her legs.

Trivia[]

Mistakes[]

  • In Crookedstar's Promise, it is said that Leopardstar's generation, including Skyheart, all decided to wait until Leopardkit reached her sixth moon before they were all apprenticed,[5] but in Leopardstar's Honor, Leopardkit was apprenticed early at five moons old.[15]
  • Skyheart is mistakenly described as gray.[16]
