Existing Policy: Warriors Wiki:Book covers
Reasons: I feel that this policy is a little out of date and not easy to use and am proposing a reform as seen below.

Project Books, Book Covers Policy Reform[]

To Include:[]

  • Naming Conventions
    • Front Covers
    • Back Covers
    • Foreign Covers
    • Small Versions
  • Series Tags
  • Language Tags
  • Cover Sizes
    • Small and Large

Naming Conventions[]

There should be a universal set of guidelines for naming book covers.

  • Standard North-American format: SeriesTag-#.extention
  • Alternative language/version format: SeriesTag-#-LanguageTag.extention
  • Small Image Format: as above but include ‘SM-‘ before the rest of the name
  • Back Cover format: as above but include ‘BK-‘ before the rest of the name.
  • Box Sets format: as above but include 'BS-' before the rest of the name.

Series Tags[]

To be used where the name says 'SeriesTag'

  • Original Series:OS
  • The New Prophecy: NP
  • Power of Three: PO3
  • Omen of the Stars: OTS
  • Field Guide: FG
  • Super Edition: SE
  • Lost Warrior: LW
  • Tigerstar and Sasha: TS
  • Ravenpaw's Path: RP
  • The Rise of Scourge: TROS

Language/Version Tags[]

To be used where the name says 'LanguageTag'

  • Chinese: CN
  • German: DE
  • Finnish: FI
  • French: FR
  • Greek: GR
  • Hungarian: HU
  • Japanese: JA
  • Korean: KO
  • Lithuanian: LT
  • Netherlands: NL
  • Polish: PL
  • Romanian: RO
  • Russian: RU
  • Turkish: TR
  • United Kingdom: UK
  • United Kingdom, version two: UK2

If the North-American paperback version differs from the hardback version then 'PB' should be used here. The audio versions of these should use the tag 'Audio' The inside covers of some verions - if different from the dustcover - should use the tag 'Inside'

Box Sets[]

Where the name says '-#-', this should be filled in with the numbers of the books in the set. (ie. 1-6 or 1-3)

Cover Sizes and File Types[]

Large Covers[]

These are intended for use on the main book article or in the gallery.

  • Size: as close as is possible to 324px high by 223px wide.
  • File type preferred: .jpg is the preferred extension for better quality.

Small Covers[]

These are intended for use on the WWiki Main Page and in feature articles.

  • Size: as close as is possible to 151px high by 100px wide.
  • File type preferred: .png is the preferred extension for these.

That's it from me. There are a few changes when you compare this with the existing policy such as the actual tags used and the file extentions preferred, but there is nothing too big. I just think this will help get these images organised. Comments etc below then s'il vous plait =) I don't know how long this discussion will be up for, I'm assuming around a week to ten days but those decisions are out of my hands. -- Sandystar 13:19, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

Hi Sandy. What I don't quite like is that you use different length strings as "series tags"; some have 2 characters, some 3, some 4 (and even in the Language tags). This will create a problem in case we make some templates, bots or whatever that works with the images, like creating a table or gallery of them (e.g. like the charart template for chararts). Of course, I do not propose or foresee creating templates or whatever at this point, this is only one of those ideas of mine, you know... I'm sorry. Helixtalk 17:08, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

It's always good to have foresight - nothing wrong with that. Nice work, Sand. I don't really see anything that needs sorting out. As we discussed on the IRC, the box set naming convention might need to be altered slightly, but that's the only thing I see. --Bramble 18:27, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. :) Another thing that occurred to me, not related to these, but not completely off topic as it might be included in the policy: mentioning how to categorize the cover images (if it is desired). I see that most are in "Book Covers" or "Foreign Covers", but not all, and some in the wrong ones. Just thought to mention. :) And yes, nice work with the guidelines. Helixtalk 19:19, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

Helix: I'm not sure how to shorten some of them; perhaps you have an idea or two on how to get all the tags the same length?
Bramble: I changed the box sets as we discussed. It was just me a being me.
Helix:Categories, well, all should be in 'Books Covers' and foreign editions in 'Foreign Covers'. I'll take a look at it, but I'm not sure it needs to be a policy? -- Sandystar 14:21, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I just mentioned it as I saw that most were not categorized, but you're right, we don't necessarily need a "rule". About the strings, I remembered that length does not count if the possible values are known. So disregard both messages. Sorry, it seems I was quite tired when I wrote them. :) Helixtalk 18:31, July 18, 2010 (UTC)

I don't like to push things but there have been no other suggestions for nearly a month. Is there anything else anyone has to add to this, or anything that needs changing? --SandyTalk 10:51, August 14, 2010 (UTC)

I think it looks fine. WhiteStorm is back! 22:56, August 19, 2010 (UTC)
