"The whole of the forest was theirs, and in their minds, there was a single instinct. Kill! Kill!"
— Narrator about the pack leader and his packmates in A Dangerous Path, page 4

The pack leader is a huge,[1] male dog, with a black-and-tan head,[2] short black-and-brown pelt,[3] blunt claws,[4] and sharp teeth.[5]

The pack leader was a guard dog, brought initially to Tallpines by Twolegs in order to guard it. However, he and his packmates escape and shelter in ThunderClan's territory, at Snakerocks. While there, he and his pack are fed by Tigerstar and used to his advantage to defeat ThunderClan. Ultimately, the pack leader and his pack are defeated by Fireheart and Bluestar, who succeed in driving the dogs out of the forest for good.

History[]

In The Prophecies Begin arc[]

A Dangerous Path[]

«Out there, in the prey-filled forest, the pack could run free. There would be no Man to chain or command them. They would feed as often as they wanted, because they would be the strongest and most savage of all.»
—Pack leader's thoughts after freeing himself and the pack A Dangerous Path, page 3
The pack leader, and his packmates are brought to Tallpines by Twolegs as guard dogs, following the fire to ward off intruders. He scents prey and cats, from over the fence of Tallpines. He discovers a hole in the fence, and with the help of his packmates, escapes into the forest. As he and the others run through the forest's trees, the instinct to kill runs at the front of his mind.
He and his pack shelter in the caves at Snakerocks, and maul two ThunderClan apprentices that decide to try and take action for their Clan. Fireheart learns, following Brightpaw's attack, that Tigerstar is feeding the dogs freshkill, and by killing Brindleface, is enticing the dogs with the taste of cat's blood.
The pack leader chases after Fireheart and Graystripe as they lead the chase to RiverClan's gorge. Behind him, his packmates follow the chase of the two ThunderClan warriors. The brown-and-black dog manages to grab Fireheart, due to Tigerstar's meddeling. As he flings the ginger tom around, he is caught off-guard by a yowl and drops the cat. Bluestar emerges from the undergrowth and rams into his side, sending him stumbling towards the edge of the gorge. The loose soil gives way as he struggles to not fall, but as he begins to plummet, he grabs the ThunderClan leader's leg and drags her with him. As the two fall, another two dogs follow them over the edge, unable to slow themselves down to avoid the edge.

The Darkest Hour[]

Fireheart recalls to himself what had happened at the gorge. He remembers the pack leader's teeth in his neck and Bluestar's bravery of charging at him from the gorge's edge. After returning to the hiding ThunderClan cats, he tells them what had happened. He later feels the feeling of dog teeth in his scruff once again while checking over ThunderClan's camp before allowing his Clanmates to return home.

Bluestar's Prophecy[]

Bluestar, from the top of a slope in ThunderClan's territory, watches as the pack leader chases and grabs Fireheart. She charges towards the two, flinging herself into the dog's side, catching him by surprise. As some of his packmates stumble over the gorge's edge, he struggles to stop himself from falling as well. In a last attempt, he manages to grab Bluestar's leg and drag her with him as they both plummet to water below.

Firestar's Quest[]

As Firestar and Sandstorm leave the forest territories on their mission, Firestar recalls the pack leader and Bluestar plummeting into the gorge near RiverClan territory.

Graystripe's Vow[]

As Graystripe returns to the remnants of the forest territories, he recalls the dog pack that had escaped from Tallpines and the treecutplace.
