    • She tells him of her grief when she died and had to leave her kits, and reassures Gray Wing he will be remembered.
  • An owl stops Turtle Tail's words and Gray Wing wakes from his dream.
  • Slate asks if Gray Wing is alright and the tom replies he was dreaming about how rich his life was.

  • Clear Sky thinks about his earlier encounter with Slash, and how he and his rogues took Star Flower.

  • Thunder hears little pawsteps and gestures to Lightning Tail, then catches a mouse.
  • Thunder thinks about Quiet Rain’s burial, and how he made a new group.
  • Lightning Tail sees a blackbird and tries to get it, but it flies away.
    • Thunder sees a thrush and was about to leap when Lightning Tail jumps from the branch and catches it instead.
  • They go back to camp and another hunting patrol consisting of Leaf, Cloud Spots and Owl Eyes look for prey.
  • Thistle and Clover argue but Thunder calms them down.
    • The ginger tom hears rustling behind and sees Owl Eyes, who informs him of Clear Sky’s patrol.
  • Clear Sky explains Slash has taken Star Flower.
    • Thunder tells his father prey is scarce and they can’t afford to give up any, with his campmates supporting him.
  • Clear Sky begs for help but Thunder tells the gray tom he must prioritize his group.
    • Clear Sky’s campmates try to calm him and suggests asking other groups for help.
  • Thunder wonders if he has made the right decision.

  • Gorse Fur calls to Moth Flight they should be hunting.
  • Gray Wing and Gorse Fur see a rabbit running towards Moth Flight, but the white she-cat was still staring up at the sky.
    • Gray Wing calls to Moth Flight but the rabbit was already gone and she apologizes.
  • Gorse Fur comes back with the rabbit and Wind Runner chastises her daughter.
  • Gray Wing goes back to Slate and sees Clear Sky and Tall Shadow.
    • The gray tom asks to fetch Wind Runner, and explains how Slash kidnapped Star Flower.
  • Gray Wing and Tall Shadow discuss about Fern.
  • Clear Sky begs Wind Runner to meet up with Slash and the rogues.
    • At first they disagree, but Gray Wing convinces them so.
    • He also offers to persuade Thunder when he heard he initially refused.
  • Gray Wing tells Wind Runner he has a plan.

  • Clear Sky wonders if the other leaders would show up.
    • He thinks about his backups, and sees Tall Shadow appear, followed by River Ripple, Wind Runner and at last, Thunder.
  • Clear Sky hears Slash’s voice and he threatens them.
    • He asks where Star Flower is.
  • Slash demands that for every five pieces of prey caught, they are to be given one.
    • They group leaders disagree and Clear Sky desperately offers one prey in seven.
    • They disagree to give up prey, and Clear Sky tells Slash he will hunt for him, if he has Star Flower.
  • The rogues leave, and Clear Sky collapses.
  • The leaders tell him to get up, as they have a plan to show him.

  • Gray Wing thinks about his previous conversation with Fern.
  • He wonders where Fern is and she shows up, leading them to Star Flower.
    • She wishes them luck.
  • The group marches forward and hears rogue voices.
    • Leaf and Lightning Tail distract the rogues while Gray Wing and Reed go for Star Flower.
    • Star Flower warns them there are two extra guards.
  • Gray Wing, Reed and Star Flower runs out, and Gray Wing attacks a tom who was fighting Star Flower.
    • He sends Reed and Star Flower away, and Lightning Tail follows a rogue.
  • Gray Wing fights a gray rogue, and the rogue leaves after.
    • He hears a yowl, and he runs to Star Flower.
  • Reed tells Gray Wing Star Flower’s kits are coming early.

  • Sparrow Fur asks Clear Sky if there is any prey around.
    • She sees a squirrel, and she and Clear Sky prepare for the attack.
  • Clear Sky kills the squirrel.
  • They decide to collect the rabbit and go back to camp, to find the rabbit gone.
  • Slash and his rogues show up, Beetle, Splinter and Snake.
    • He demands to have the prey.
    • Clear Sky tells Sparrow Fur to give the rogues the prey.
  • He angers the rogue and Slash orders his rogues to attack Sparrow Fur.
  • Clear Sky pulls them off, and Slash gives the rabbit back, telling them to give it to Star Flower.
  • Clear Sky tries to give Star Flower the rabbit.
    • She refuses, and the hunting patrol comes back, only catching a vole.
  • Blossom offers the mouse to Star Flower.
    • Star Flower eats the mouse, but Clear Sky refuses to eat.
  • He allows his kits to leave the den, much to their excitement, but worries about Slash and his rogues.

  • Thunder and the other leaders wait for the meeting to begin.
  • Clear Sky explains how the rogues have been stealing their prey, and the other leaders angrily agree.
  • Thunder and Lightning Tail show them their “thunder-and-lightning” move or Gorse Fur, River Ripple and Shattered Ice, which impresses them.
  • Gorse Fur and Wind Runner demonstrate the method of attack they use when hunting rabbits.
  • Star Flower tells Thunder to attack her, and Thunder reluctantly does.
    • She limps his forepaw, and Thunder is impressed by the move, trying it on Lightning Tail.
  • Star Flower tells Thunder to attack her, and she slashes his muzzle.
  • River Ripple demonstrates a fishing technique on Tall Shadow, telling her to use Star Flower’s move.
  • Jagged Peak tells them everyone should train with three paws, as the rogues underestimate them.
  • Thunder brings Lightning Tail with him to find the rogue camp, catching a mouse on the way.
    • They hide in the reeds, and see Slash and a she-cat, Violet.
  • Slash tries to bribe Violet into being his mate, as she can have lots of prey, angering Thunder.
  • Splinter and Beetle get their pick, as they have done well.
    • Slash gives Frog a squashed wren, telling him he is lucky to have something.
  • Thunder overhears Slash discussing an attack with Beetle and Splinter.
  • They leave when the rogues are asleep, and Thunder promises to help Violet leave, thinking she is beautiful.

  • Gray Wing looks down the slope, wondering if the rogues are spying on them.
  • Dust Muzzle catches a rabbit, receiving praise from his campmates.
  • Gray Wing tries to attack a grouse, but eight rogues appear.
  • He fights an orange she-cat, and surprises her by stopping Star Flower’s move.
    • Slash tells his rogues if Wind Runner is defeated, so will the rest of them.
  • Gorse Fur stops their attack on Wind Runner.
  • Gray Wing fights alongside Slate, and has trouble breathing.
  • Splinter leaves the fight, and Gray Wing fights a tortoiseshell she-cat.
    • Gray Wing attacks Slash, struggling to breathe, but feels someone pull him off.
  • He thanks Slate, and she reveals she’s expecting Gray Wing’s kits.

  • Thunder keeps thinking about Violet.
  • They go back to the rogue camp, seeing four rogues, one of them being Violet.
  • The four rogues decide to hunt near the Twolegplace, as Slash isn’t feeding them properly.
  • Splinter trains with Beech, and Willow tries to comfort her friend.
    • Two kits emerge from the reeds and Slash threatens for them to leave, but Moss defends them and Dawn.
  • Moss and Beetle fight, but Red enters camp, with dogs behind him.
  • Thunder and Lightning Tail briefly introduce themselves, and fight the dogs.
  • A dog breaks Frog’s spine, and Willow drags him away.
    • Thunder and Lightning Tail rush to help Beech attack the dogs, but Slash stops them.
  • Beech dies, to find Red has left, blaming him.
  • Thunder criticizes Slash, telling him he needs to take care of his group.

  • Some of Slash’s rogues disown him.
  • Lightning Tail runs to bring Pebble Heart.
    • Violet returns, and her campmates explain about the dogs.
  • Pebble Heart arrives, and attends to the injured cats.
  • Thunder tells them they need to leave, as this camp isn’t safe for them.

Chapter 14
[]

  • Gray Wing follows Lightning Tail.
    • The black tom tells Gray Wing that Slash abandoned many of his rogues.
  • Gray Wing meets the rogues, and Thunder introduces Raven and Juniper.
  • Violet asks to join the groups.
  • They decide to take the rogues to the moor first.
    • Frog needs to be carried, and Lightning Tail and Moss go find some bark.
  • They heave him onto the bark.
  • Frog dies, despite the attempts to save him.
  • The rogues are brought to camp, and Wind Runner is distrustful of them.
    • Willow begs to at least bury Frog, and Wind Runner decides to let them stay for the night.

Chapter 15
[]

  • Clear Sky thinks about the meeting he is about to have.
    • He is optimistic, but the other leaders are not.
  • River Ripple tells the groups Moss and Dawn are doing great, and so are Pine and Drizzle.
    • Wind Runner complains about Fern, Willow and Bee.
  • Blossom reveals Red lives in the camp, and Gray Wing tells Clear Sky he was one of Slash’s rogues.
  • Wind Runner shows her strong doubt of Red’s loyalty, and Clear Sky worries about Red.
  • They begin to leave, and Thunder warns Clear Sky how Red led the dogs into camp.
    • Clear Sky tries to make peace with Thunder, but he doesn’t take it too seriously.
  • He feels he wouldn’t ever really be close with Thunder, but promises to be a better father to his new family.

  • Gray Wing dreams of a pine forest.
    • He hears Slate screeching that the kits are coming and he rushes out to call Reed.
  • Reed and Wind Runner help deliver the kits, telling Gray Wing to stay outside.
  • Gray Wing shares tongues with Fern, thinking she has suited to moor life.
  • Wind Runner calls Gray Wing in, and he looks at the kits with full of love.
    • Jagged Peak and Tall Shadow come to meet the kits, bringing a pigeon with them.
  • Jagged Peak admits his guilt when he ran to follow the group that was leaving the mountains.
  • Gray Wing reassures him, as he has found so much love here, and tries hard to breathe properly.
  • Reed suddenly cries out that Fern is injured.

Chapter 17
[]

  • Gray Wing is shocked, and wonders if the camp is in danger.
    • He races to Fern with Wind Runner, worrying about his kits.
  • Moth Flight tries to stop the blood.
  • Fern reveals Bee attacked her for being “too happy”.
    • Wind Runner is distrustful, thinking perhaps Willow knew something.
  • Fern is carried back to camp.
  • Slate wonders if the kits will be safe.
    • Gray Wing promises that as long as he is alive, nothing bad will happen to them.

Chapter 18
[]

  • Blossom, Dew Petal, Flower Foot and Tiny Branch play a game.
    • Clear Sky proudly watches his kits play.
  • He thinks about Red, and if he can trust the former rogue.
  • The kits play fight with Red, and the russet colored tom begs for mercy.
  • Gorse Fur enters camp, with news that Bee has gone back to Slash.
    • Clear Sky is worried about Red, and tells his kits to go to Star Flower, much to their disappointment.
  • Clear Sky asks Nettle to help him with a plan.
  • At night, Clear Sky orders Red and Nettle to hunt as much as possible, but not to eat anything.
    • Nettle tries to convince Red to eat something, but he refuses.
    • Clear Sky slipped out from the trees, blaming Red for eating when he wasn’t supposed to.
    • Red takes the blame, much to his surprise.
  • Nettle tells Red he hopes he would help drive Clear Sky out, and Red attacks Nettle.
  • Clear Sky pulls Red off, and the glossy tom realizes he was being tested.
  • Clear Sky trusts Red, and agrees to his loyalty and honesty.

Chapter 19
[]

  • Thunder and Violet collect bramble stems.
  • Milkweed offers to keep an eye on the ravine, in case Slash comes.
  • Violet asks Thunder if he wants to say something, and he stumbles over his words.
    • Clover, Thistle, Lightning Tail and Leaf demonstrate attacking each other.
    • Thunder praises Lightning Tail for being a good mentor.
  • Violet defends Ember from Thunder and Lightning Tail.
  • Thunder is anxious about River Ripple’s group and decides to go check on them.
    • Lightning Tail offers to go with them but Violet asks for her and Thunder to go alone.
  • They encounter Owl Eyes and Pink Eyes and Violet defends Ember again.
  • Thunder and Violet leave, and Thunder asks if Violet can be his mate, which she agrees to.
  • River Ripple appears and offers them fish.
    • He shows Thunder and Violet that Dawn, Moss and their kits are enjoying their new life.
  • Thunder tells River Ripple Ember still hunts on his own, and wishes he could suit more to camp life.
    • He is doubtful of letting him go, as Ember might rejoin Slash.

Chapter 20
[]

  • Milkweed orders her kits to clean themselves for the meeting.
  • They head for the meeting that River Ripple suggested.
  • At the meeting, Wind Runner complains about Willow and Fern.
    • Moth Flight and Gray Wing try to convince Wind Runner to trust them, but she dismisses them.
  • River Ripple asks the former rogues if they swear to be loyal, and they do.
  • Dawn brings up the idea of changing their names; she becomes Dawn Mist, Willow and Fern become Willow Tail and Fern Leaf respectively, Moss becomes Moss Tail, Pine becomes Pine Needle, Red becomes Red Claw.
    • Pebble Heart and Sun Shadow names Juniper and Raven Juniper Branch and Raven Pelt. Drizzle keeps her old name. Violet becomes Violet Dawn.
  • Ember acts hostile and Thunder is frustrated at him.
  • Slash appears and Ember goes back to him.
    • The others refuse to return to Slash, and the rogue tom swears revenge.

  • Clear Sky worries about Star Flower and races back to camp.
  • Slash tells Gray Wing not to worry about Star Flower, as he was the one who led his cats away.
  • Wind Runner realizes Gray Wing’s kits could be in danger, and tells River Ripple and Thunder to go back to camp.
    • They run back to camp with Pebble Heart, Sun Shadow, Owl Eyes and Sparrow Fur helping.
  • As they near camp, Gray Wing smells blood and sees Slate and Spotted Fur lying, pelts soaked in blood.
  • White Tail and Silver Stripe appear from their hiding spot, but they say that Black Ear has been captured.
  • Gray Wing offers to go, but Thunder insists that he needs to rest and he will look for Black Ear.
  • Wind Runner sends out search patrols for Black Ear.
    • Thunder promises to Gray Wing he will bring back Black Ear safely.

  • Pebble Heart urges Thunder to go looking for Black Ear.
    • Owl Eyes scents a track that might be left by rogues.
  • Thunder realizes that Swallow must have guarded Black Ear during the meeting, since she wasn’t with Slash.
  • He scents that the trail is fresh, but can’t smell any blood.
  • They head inside a cave, but a fox blocks the exit.
    • Thunder slashes at the fox, thinking the fox is going to him, and silently wishes Lightning Tail to be ready to lead his cats.
  • However, Clear Sky appears and slams into the fox, and together they battle the fox.
  • Thunder explains about Black Ear’s abduction.
  • They follow the scent trail and Owl Eyes realizes that the rogues are moving towards the pines.
    • Thunder thinks they will cross the Thunderpath, and sees the rogues and Black Ear next to it.
  • The rogues see them, and Clear Sky decides on attacking after the monster goes across.
    • However, at the last second, the rogues cross, leaving Black Ear on the Thunderpath.
  • Owl Eyes howls that the monster is going to kill Black Ear.

  • Clear Sky feels time slow down as he reaches out for Black Ear.
  • Thunder pulls him away from the monster, worried.
    • Black Ear whimpers that he wants to go home. Sparrow Fur tells him they need to go to Tall Shadow’s camp first, and Thunder lets the kit ride on him.
  • Clear Sky’s tail is in a bad condition.
    • When Black Ear asks for Gray Wing, Thunder and Sparrow Fur glance at each other nervously.
  • Clear Sky asks about it but Thunder shrugs it off, but Clear Sky thinks he is lying to him.
  • As they reach camp, Clear Sky, Owl Eyes and Thunder explain to Jagged Peak what happened.
    • Holly keeps Black Ear warm, and Clear Sky falls asleep.
  • Clear Sky wakes up to see Thunder.
    • He explains to his son it was his duty to save Gray Wing’s kits, as he saved his.
    • Clear Sky tells Thunder he meant him, as well.
  • Outside, Slate and Holly are arguing.
    • While Holly tells her to stay until Black Ear is better, Slate insists that she takes him home as is it his last chance before… but doesn’t finish her sentence.
  • Clear Sky realizes that Gray Wing’s sick and Thunder tells him he could be dying.
    • Shock pulses through the light gray tom and insists on seeing his brother, but his tail gets in the way.
  • Thunder promises to help him get there.

  • Gray Wing is heavily in chest pain, but insists to stay alive until Black Ear comes back home safe, despite his campmates’ protests.
    • He sees Slate with Black Ear on her back.
    • His kits clamber onto his chest.
  • Slate explains what happened.
  • Gray Wing starts coughing and Wind Runner bids him goodbye, to White Tail’s confusion.
  • Jagged Peak, Clear Sky, Thunder and Pebble Heart enter the den.
    • Gray Wing tells Black Ear to go to Pebble Heart if he needs help.
  • White Tail asks why everyone is here, and why they are in different groups.
  • Gray Wing realizes the word groups doesn’t fit them, calling them Clans.
  • Pebble Heart realizes this as the five Clans and five petals of the blazing star.
    • Gray Wing names Wind Runner’s group WindClan.
    • Silver Stripe names Thunder’s group ThunderClan.
    • White Tail names Tall Shadow’s group ShadowClan.
    • Black Ear names River Ripple’s group RiverClan.
    • Gray Wing names Clear Sky’s group SkyClan.
  • He sees Bright Stream and her two kits.
  • Gray Wing tells Silver Stripe to be brave, White Tail to learn as much as possible and Black Ear to forgive any harm done to him.
    • His kits beg him to stay, but Gray Wing feels his last breath leave his body. Slate and the kits hold onto his unneeded body.
  • Gray Wing walks towards the spirit cats, reflecting on his life.
