Mapleshade's Vengeance

Rabbitfur is a ThunderClan elder.
When Nettlepaw is scolded by Mapleshade, he thinks that if he spoke to Deerdapple the way he did to Mapleshade, she would force Nettlepaw to remove ticks off of Rabbitfur for a moon.
As Mapleshade's kits play some games, Rabbitfur pads over to the kits, and asks if they wanted to play a different game. Larchkit responds in the affirmative, and Rabbitfur rolls over a small stone into the middle of the clearing. With his nose, he nudges a twig until it is less than a fox-length from the stone. He explains the game to the kits; stand by the stick, and pounce on the stone without touching the ground between the two objects. The kits complain about the distance, but Rabbitfur assures them that their father, Birchface, could leap twice the distance, and land without a sound. Patchkit complains that Rabbitfur was being bossy, and Petalkit attempts to accomplish the task, only to be told by the elder to try again.
On Larchkit's turn, Rabbitfur has to move out of the way to avoid the kit landing on him, and gives his chest fur some licks, complaining that Birchface could pounce without harming other cats. Mapleshade reasons that her kits took after her, claiming she couldn't pounce. Rabbitfur tells her that she wasn't that bad, and explains his disbelief at how heavy-footed the kits were for being kits of Birchface. As Mapleshade rounds up her kits to go for a walk, Rabbitfur tells them that they should be proud of their father, as he was a good hunter, but Mapleshade interrupts him, and he wanders back to his spot outside the elders' den.
While on their walk, Larchkit stumbles and falls, and Mapleshade is thankful that Rabbitfur didn't see it, although she thinks it's undeniable that her kits are clumsier than their Clanmates. When she returns, Ravenwing questions the true father of Mapleshade's kits, as Rabbitfur told him about what happened earlier.

Quotes

Rabbitfur: "I want you to stand by this stick, and pounce on that stone without touching the ground in between."
Petalkit: "But that's almost at the other side of the clearing!"
Larchkit: "I'd have to grow wings to leap that far!"
Rabbitfur: "Don't be mouse-brained. Your father could leap twice that distance, and land on the smallest leaf without disturbing a fly."
—Rabbitfur, Larchkit, and Petalkit after the kits have destroyed their moss Mapleshade's Vengeance, page chapter 3

Mapleshade: "Perhaps they take after me, Rabbitfur. I can't pounce, either."
Rabbitfur: "You're not that bad. I can't believe any kit of Birchface would be heavy-footed as a badger."
—When Larchkit and Petalkit prove themselves to be rather clumsy Mapleshade's Vengeance, page chapter 3

"You should be very proud of who your father was. I remember the time we were stalking a pheasant over by Twolegplace. I'd never seen a bird that big, but Birchface was fearless— and so quiet, I couldn't hear him over the breeze in the leaves!"
—Rabbitfur Mapleshade's Vengeance, page chapter 3
