- Leafstar wakes up hearing paws outside her den. She finds Billystorm looking over her, and she regrets sleeping so late. Billystorm expresses his worry for Snookpaw and believes his Twolegs are shutting him in against his will. The warrior asks Leafstar to join him to check on the young apprentice, but Leafstar tries to refuse. She eventually agrees to his request and plans to inform Sharpclaw. The deputy is organizing hunting patrols to some of the warriors' annoyance. The leader tells him about her trip with Billystorm and they take off.
- As they move closer to the border, Billystorm informs Leafstar of a nearby Thunderpath, a trapped dog, and other obstacles they will have to face. She cuts him off and reminds him that they'll be fine, but she grows weary of the dog. As the pair continue, Leafstar notices two Twoleg kits throwing a ball around. She asks Billystorm if he's ever played with one, and he agrees to his embarrassment. They pass another dog that eventually catches them and the two cats scatter. After escaping the dog, a Twoleg opens a door to release their kittypet. Leafstar immediately recognizes Hutch, and Billystorm asks if they know each other. She explains the early days of Firestar's time in SkyClan, but Hutch looks confused on why a kittypet would choose both the warrior and housefolk life. The leader wishes the tom well and the pair continue their trip.
- Billystorm and Leafstar arrive at the apprentice's Twoleg nest, and they call for the young tom. Leafstar can't make out Snookpaw's scent with all the Twoleg things clogging her nose. The two cats catch a glimpse of the black-and-white fur in one of the windows. Snookpaw is surprised his leader came all the way out here to see him and invites them inside. Reluctantly, Leafstar squeezes through the small gap. As she sets her paws down inside the nest, Leafstar is immediately overstimulated. Snookpaw brings the two cats into a different room, and Leafstar asks why he hasn't been back in the gorge. Snookpaw admits that his Twolegs took him to a medicine Twoleg to have him treated, but they won't leave him alone since his sickness. He expresses how much he misses being a part of the Clan.
- As they take a tour around the house, Snookpaw's Twolegs arrive, and they quickly scramble to escape. Snookpaw distracts his Twolegs and Billystorm helps the mottled she-cat out of the window. Leafstar overhears Snookpaw coddling to his Twolegs while they jump on a stony path. The apprentice tells them to run, and the pair sprint their way back to the gorge as fast as possible.
