Chapter description

Leafstar sits on the Rockpile and watches her warriors join her besides the pool. Sharpclaw arrives with the leader first, the the Twolegplace cats quickly follow. Other Clan cats join the group to head out for their mission. Egg tries to join the patrol, but is caught by Leafstar and Sharpclaw. After some deliberation, the apprentice joins the group on their mission.

Leafstar prays to StarClan, hoping their trip goes well. Billystorm admits that he thinks she is doing a great job, and Leafstar appreciates his sentiment. The tom asks if he can join the mission. Leafstar reluctantly accepts him into the patrol, and the group begins to leave camp. Stick leads the patrol, and Stick's group thanks the leader for helping them. The group passes waterfalls, rivers, and cliffs before making camp in some bushes behind the river. Sparrowpelt asks the Twolegplace cats if the nearby Twolegplace is their home. They tell the Clan cats that their destination is much further ahead. The cats hunt for the night and fall asleep.

In the morning, they pass by rivers and pastures with cows. The patrol slides under a fence into another field. The cats slowly walk through the field and hear a dog. The group scatters, but because of the empty field, Leafstar hides all of the cats under a bush. A Twoleg calls for the dog, and the animal runs back. The patrol continues their journey to Dodge's group. The group of cats make camp at another field with cows, and Leafstar believes that it is going to be a rough night.

Leafstar wakes up surrounded by thick mist. A group of cats walk through the mist in front of her, yet they can't see that she is there. Their urgent voices carry around her, and she recognizes Cloudstar's meow within the crowd. Leafstar begins to believe that StarClan is telling her that she is going the wrong way. She pushes herself to the back of the group, where an old warrior's gaze meets her eye. The tom speaks the words of the prophecy to the she-cat, and she quickly wakes up afterwards. Her Clanmates ask if StarClan had visited in her dreams, but she denies it.

The patrol continues their mission, and Leafstar notices the Twolegplace cats growing more anxious. Coal recalls the time Firestar travelled to the Twolegplace after the flood. Leafstar imagines life if the ThunderClan leader failed to rebuild SkyClan. The patrol grows closer to Dodge's camp and Stick's group calls out for their old friends. Percy and Snowy reveal themselves to the cats and they all greet eachother warmly. They observe that Percy had visited the Cutter. Shorty asks the cats if they've seen Red, and they mention they've seen her with Harley. Leafstar notices that he has a grudge against this cat, but still agrees that Dodge's camp must be driven out.

Leafstar question the Twolegplace cats about their territory, but Coal explains that cats roam freely. The leader asks how they plan on defeating Dodge without a border, and Stick mentions that they must kill him. The SkyClan warriors grow anxious. Cherrytail reminds him that killing a cat is against the warrior code, and that the only solution is to drive him out. Sharpclaw offers SkyClan's help, but reminds the tom that only he can fight Dodge. Stick prepares the group to attack at nightfall and offers the clearing to the Clan cats to hunt in. Leafstar and Billystorm finish a hunt together and share a piece of prey before the battle.
