Chapter description[]

Jaypaw, wondering if any of the other medicine cats were dreaming ordinary dreams, focuses on StarClan's hunting grounds. Which cats truly shared with StarClan? He returns, and is met by Yellowfang stating that Spottedleaf was right. Yellowfang replies to his question that Spottedleaf had said to not leave him, the kit to his own devices for too long. Yellowfang introduces herself as a former ThunderClan medicine cat before Cinderpelt.
Yellowfang asks if he is trying to walk in other cats' dreams. Jaypaw defensively replies so what if he does, and Yellowfang warns that he should be careful. He is young, and curiosity is dangerous, and he should be careful of where he treads. Yellowfang agrees with Jaypaw about the fact that Leafpool had said that it was a special gift. Yellowfang leans closer to Jaypaw, and tells him that he needs to think before he uses his power.
Crossly, he pads through the trees, and picks up Barkface's scent. Walking closer, he sees Barkface talking with Tallstar worriedly about the dogs that will come. Tallstar tells Barkface that the Twolegs will bring the dogs when they bring the sheep. Suddenly, Spottedleaf is beside him, and scolds him to not use his gift to spy on others. He wakes up before he can give a retort.
As he wakes, he first thinks of telling Firestar about the dogs - he would be impressed, certainly. Willowpaw's excitement to pass on Mudfur's message is very obvious, and they all start to leave. Mothwing gives advice to Jaypaw that he should try putting some catchweed before he puts on the polituce of honey and horsetail for Stormfur's scratch.
They part, and Jaypaw asks Leafpool about whether being a good medicine cat means that they must share tongues with StarClan, but Leafpool quickly avoids the subject, firmly saying that passing on StarClan's messages is only one of the things they do. They finally arrive at camp, and Jaypaw quickly goes to Firestar and Sandstorm's den, waking them up after checking that everything is fine.
He tells the two that he had a dream about StarClan that WindClan is going to be attacked by dogs, stating that it would be a good chance to take some of WindClan's territory. Sandstorm and Firestar ask Jaypaw if that is what StarClan truly meant by telling him about the dogs. Though Jaypaw tells them that he is sure, Firestar tells him that they will not take advantage of WindClan's troubles, and Jaypaw marches out of the den furiously, thinking on why they won't believe him.
