Chapter Summary
Hollykit's PoV
- The chapter starts with Hollykit waiting in the clearing where Brambleclaw left her. The brambles tremble and Jaykit comes out. Hollykit and Lionkit are relieved that he's okay. Jaykit turns around and goes back to the den. Hollykit remarks that Jaykit must've been kept for longer. Hollykit is worried about Firestar, as she thinks he will punish them. She hopes that no cat will stare at them. Mousepaw glances at her sympathetically before looking away. Hollykit wants to take her punishment like a true warrior. Meanwhile, Sorreltail and Brackenfur are discussing about Jaykit. Hollykit feels irritated, as he was fussed over, and she was only being stared at.
- She hisses at Lionkit that they wouldn't have been in so much trouble if Jaykit hadn't fallen over the edge. Then she thinks that he could've died, and she realizes she wouldn't survive without him. Hollykit remarks that no one should've gone, and Firestar pops in, exclaiming that he wished that she realized it earlier. Brambleclaw demands to Hollykit why she was here. Hollykit finds herself unable to explain, so Spiderleg explains it to Brambleclaw for her. Brambleclaw asks where Lionkit and Jaykit are, to which Spiderleg answers that too. Brambleclaw escorts the kits back to camp.
- Upon reaching camp, they hear Ferncloud let out a low, mournful yowl. Jaykit is lying in the middle of the clearing, unmoving. Brambleclaw nudges him gently, fear in his eyes.
