  • Tigerheart races through the ShadowClan forest to meet Dovewing, his forbidden mate.
  • He thinks of the lie he had to tell Rowanstar, and feels guilty.
  • He reaches Dovewing, and he learns that Dovewing is expecting his kits.
  • Tigerheart is shocked, and isn't sure about leaving, but wants to be with Dovewing and support her.
  • The two argue, then Dovewing tells him if he doesn't come, she'll leave without him.
  • Dovewing is furious with Tigerheart, and leaves their meeting spot and goes back to ThunderClan.

  • He feels crushed at the thought of calling Rowanstar weak in front of the Clan.
  • The deputy reminds himself of Ivypool, and thinks she could help Dovewing stay.
    • He races off to find her.
  • Crossing the border, he runs into Ivypool, but she is hostile towards him.
  • Tigerheart tries convincing her to speak with Dovewing, but the tabby warrior refuses.
    • The hope he had dies and Tigerheart vows not to let his mate or kits down.

  • He catches her scent, beginning to follow it, knowing the route she's taking.
  • Once he reaches the Thunderpath, Tigerheart gives up.
  • The deputy decides to stay with his Clan, wishing his mate would understand.

  • Tigerheart follows Whorlpaw, Stonewing, and Juniperclaw back to camp from a hunt.
    • He remembers watching his Clanmates work together, which gave him hope.
  • Once again, Dovewing comes to mind, and the tabby tom wishes her to be safe, reminding himself that she survived the Dark Forest, and the Kin.
    • He wonders if abandoning his mate and unborn kits was worth his broken Clan.
  • News is brought to ShadowClan about Dovewing's disappearance.
  • Tawnypelt approaches Tigerheart, and questions his knowledge of the tragedy.
  • He goes off to find Ivypool, and she claws him, then leaves.
  • Tigerheart finds sense in Ivypool's words, and apologizes to his missing mate.

  • Tigerheart is out hunting again.
  • Snakepaw suggests checking near the SkyClan border, and Tigerheart follows through with this.
  • He spots a rabbit, and the cats get excited, before Plumwillow appears.
    • The SkyClan she-cat crosses the border and catches the prey.
  • The patrol prepares to fight her, then Tigerheart stops them.
  • Plumwillow claims that SkyClan and ThunderClan alike are protecting them, which enrages the ShadowClan cats.
  • To avoid conflict, Tigerheart gives the rabbit to her.
    • For a moment, after Plumwillow departs, he questions his choice.
  • He tells himself that SkyClan's relationship with his Clan is more important than a soggy rabbit.
  • The patrol makes their way back to camp, and Juniperclaw angrily tells Rowanstar about what happened.
    • Tigerheart feels reproachful, thinking his Clanmates betrayed him.
  • Rowanstar promises to make SkyClan pay for 'stealing' the rabbit.
  • He leads a battle patrol, but before the fight can break out, Tigerheart stops them.
    • Leafstar tells the furious cats that the next rabbit they catch is what they'll give to ShadowClan.
  • Eventually, the excited battle patrol calms, and reluctantly agrees.
  • Tigerheart hopes Rowanstar understands what he was doing, but his father is just angry with him.
    • He ponders if letting Dovewing leave for the conflict was a good idea.

  • Thoughts and worry of Dovewing crowded him each time he tried sleeping.

  • Tigerheart mentions Darktail, and Rowanstar seems to flinch, pained by the memory.

  • He refuses, and the leader walks off, leaving into his den with Tawnypelt.
  • Snowbird and Scorchfur enter camp, and Scorchfur carries a rabbit, telling Tigerheart SkyClan had left it.
  • The trio starts arguing over Rowanstar's authority, and the two warriors announce they'll only take orders from Tigerheart.
    • He wonders if he'll ever be able to escape ShadowClan, or be destined to walk alone, without his mate and kits.

    • He goes to seek advice from Puddleshine.
  • Puddleshine wakes up with a hiss, then informs Tigerheart of a vision.
  • He finally knows what to do, and departs from ShadowClan to find Dovewing.

  • Tigerheart continues traveling, all the while imagining Dovewing's reaction to seeing him.
    • He carries on, and eventually crosses paths with a twolegplace.
  • A ginger tom appears, and he and Tigerheart fight briefly before the kittypet leaves.
  • Tigerheart encounters another kittypet, Rose, but she is no help.
    • The ginger cat appears again, but the brown tom easily knocks him over.
  • He introduces himself as Fuzzball, and he shows interest in Tigerheart's Clan life.
  • Rose apologizes for not being a help in his quest.
    • Fuzzball takes Tigerheart to meet his friend, a cat named Ajax.
  • Ajax knows about the big Twolegplace, and Tigerheart asks for him to lead the way.
  • He agrees, but only to take him to a Thundersnake.
  • Tigerheart and the kittypets get to the tracks, but as the huge monster roars past, Tigerheart wonders what Dovewing was thinking.

  • Ajax and Fuzzball try to persuade Tigerheart to climb inside the Thundersnake, to which Tigerheart is horrified and declines.
    • Tigerheart takes Ajax and Fuzzball hunting. Fuzzball scares a rabbit unintentionally towards Tigerheart, and he luckily kills it.
  • Tigerheart and the two kittypets part ways with Tigerheart deciding to walk along the Silverpath to the city.
    • Into his trek, Tigerheart enters a tunnel that the Silverpath runs through, and narrowly escapes being killed by a Thundersnake by crouching against the wall.
    • Tigerheart then discovers a tuft of Dovewing's fur on the Silverpath, reassuring him that Dovewing had come this way.

  • Tigerheart wakes up from a dream about ShadowClan's suffering under Darktail's reign.
  • He travels through another Silverpath tunnel, following a mouse.
    • Tigerheart leaps up onto a platform where Twolegs get into the Thundersnakes, and becomes disoriented seeing so many Twolegs.
    • Tigerheart climbs onto a cart of Twoleg bags, but accidentally gets rolled into a Thundersnake, which takes him to another station.

  • Tigerheart exits the Thundersnake, and runs through the caverns to find another cat guarding a Twoleg rot pile. He introduces himself as Dash after realizing Tigerheart didn't want to steal food.
    • Tigerheart asks Dash about the gorse-spined den he is looking for.
    • Dash strikes up a bargain with Tigerheart, asking for his help in return for directions to the gorse-spined den.
  • Dash shows Tigerheart his former rot pile which had been taken over by Floyd and Mae, two rogues. Tigerheart agrees to help Dash get his rot pile back in return for directions.
    • Tigerheart and Dash work together to drive out Floyd and Mae, and Dash shows Tigerheart where the den with gorse spines is, like he promised.
    • Tigerheart thanks Dash, and hopes that Dovewing made it to the gorse-spined den.

  • Tigerheart enters the den. It appears to be underneath a larger Twoleg den and the walls are lined with stone.
  • Tigerheart is met by a couple of cats that call themselves the guardian cats, and he explains he's looking for Dovewing.
    • The cats introduce themselves as Fierce, Cobweb, and Ant. Ant says that Dovewing is here.
  • Tigerheart and Dovewing meet again.
    • Dovewing is initially angry that Tigerheart didn't meet her, but after Tigerheart explains he tried to follow her, Dovewing decides that she's happy Tigerheart followed her, regardless.
  • The following morning, Dovewing wakes up Tigerheart.
    • Tigerheart meets Spire and Blaze for the first time. Spire mentions he was expecting two cats to arrive, to Tigerheart's confusion. Blaze explains proudly that Spire dreams about special things.
    • Tigerheart is introduced to Cinnamon, and he explains to Fierce a little bit more about Clan life and why he came here.
    • Fierce explains that a fox has taken over a place where the guardian cats usually gather herbs, and they haven't been able to gather herbs there for a long time.
      • Tigerheart is enthusiastic to help the cats drive off the fox, and wants to lead a group of cats to assess the situation.

  • Fierce, Cobweb, Cinnamon, and Ant take Tigerheart through the twolegplace.
    • Tigerheart is nervous about the many Thunderpaths they have to cross.
    • Fierce leads them into a tunnel beneath the Thunderpaths.
  • Tigerheart begins tracking the fox.
    • The fox appears and the cats attempt to fight it, but Tigerheart notices the guardian cats aren't well trained.
    • The cats are about to win, but another fox arrives and drives them off.
    • Tigerheart holds off the foxes for the others to escape.
  • Tigerheart and Fierce realize the foxes must be mates, and if they stay much longer they'll have cubs.

  • The guardian cats discuss what to do about the foxes. Tigerheart wants to train them to fight.
    • Pipsqueak and Dotty don't want to fight.
    • Fierce tells them they don't have to fight, but Tigerheart encourages her to rally their spirits.
  • Tigerheart notes that the guardian cats don't want a leader like the Clans have.
    • He feels relaxed without cats pushing responsibilities onto him.
    • The guardian cats begin training and make good progress.
    • Tigerheart thinks of his apprentice, Sleekwhisker.
  • Now that the guardian cats know a few moves, they come up with a strategy for how to attack the foxes.
    • Dovewing proposes using herself as bait to catch the foxes off guard.
    • Tigerheart and Fierce both refuse to let her, so Spire volunteers instead.
    • Blaze is tasked with keeping Dovewing busy so she won't worry about Tigerheart as much.
  • Tigerheart decides they'll fill in the fox den so they won't come back.
  • The next day, Tigerheart leads the guardian cats back to the herb patch to deal with the foxes.
    • Spire leads one of the foxes into an ambush.
    • Half of the guardian cats attack the dog fox, while the other half, along with Tigerheart, go after the vixen.
    • The cats are able to drive the foxes away and fill in their den so they don't come back.
  • The guardian cats return to the cavern, where they eat and sort through their herbs.
  • Tigerheart feels life here is simple, but is afraid his kits will be nothing but strays if they're raised here.

  • A few days pass and the foxes have not returned.
    • Marigold, an old black she-cat, seems to be dying.
    • Tigerheart thinks about how slow-paced life with the guardian cats is, but is still afraid of his kits becoming strays.
  • Tigerheart sits with Spire and watches the twolegs gather for their yowling time.
    • Spire explains he enjoys Blaze's company, but needs time to himself every so often.
    • Spire tells Tigerheart about a dream he had involving a falling tree. Tigerheart believes the tree could symbolize Rowanstar.
  • Tigerheart and Spire return to the cavern to find Dovewing teaching Blaze and Ant battle moves.
    • Tigerheart tells Dovewing about Spire's dream, but she doesn't think it's important.
    • Tigerheart admits he never planned to give up ShadowClan forever, angering Dovewing.
  • As Tigerheart is apologizing, Dovewing begins kitting.

  • Fierce guides Tigerheart away so Peanut and Spire can help with the kitting.
    • Tigerheart fetches Dovewing a stick to bite down on.
    • Spire instructs Blaze to bring her water from the drip-pipe.

      • Tigerheart is worried his kits won't be able to grow strong off twoleg scraps.
    • While guarding collected scraps, Cinnamon is confronted by four rogues.
      • Tigerheart stands up for her and manages to chase the rogues off.
    • In the cavern, Spire mentions that Tigerheart's kits will be warriors.
    • Tigerheart attempts to hunt outside the gathering place.
      • He manages to catch a thrush.
      • He brings it to Dovewing and the kits, but they seem disinterested.
      • Dovewing tears it into strips to let them try it.
    • Tigerheart becomes confident that his kits will be warriors, just as Spire said.

  • Tigerheart is on patrol with Dovewing, Fierce, Spire, and Ant.
    • He scents the rogue she-cat again.
    • He finds her in the bushes and accuses her of invading the guardian cats' territory.
      • Fierce points out that they have no land.
    • The gray she-cat is called Fog and the brown tom she's with is Tuna.
  • The argument is abandoned with Fierce allowing Fog and her friends to stay.
  • Tigerheart is having a rough time adjusting to life without borders or territory.
    • Dovewing tells him not to boss any cat around.
    • Tigerheart questions how much longer they must wait to return to the lake.
      • Tigerheart insists on the kits being raised in ShadowClan, offending Dovewing.
      • Dovewing insinuates ShadowClan has already been destroyed.
  • Tigerheart suggests hunting the rats by the scrapcans.
    • The cats chase the rats toward a pile of trash.
    • Fog, Tuna, and Streak accidentally scare them away.
    • Tigerheart scolds them, but Fierce suggests just going back to scavenging.
    • Tigerheart suggests setting borders.
    • Dovewing says there's no use fighting if they don't have to.
  • Tigerheart misses the honor of being a warrior.

    • Lightkit asks if they'll ever return to the forest and Shadowkit says it's dark there.

    • Twolegs are placing food on ledges and the cats plan to steal some.
    • Once Dovewing returns, Tigerheart joins the raiding patrol.
  • Fierce takes them to a large clearing filled with food piles on tables.
    • Dotty finds a spot beside two low stones to keep the stash.
    • Mittens begins at the ledge with the fish.
    • Tigerheart goes with Fierce and Cobweb to see what kind of food the twolegs brought.
      • Fierce claws down a grouse and Tigerheart takes it back to Dotty.
  • Fog and her gang are scavenging as well.
    • Tigerheart suspects they're trying to take over the guardian cats' territory.
    • He confronts Fog. When Growler tries to steal the rabbit he scavenged, Tigerheart fights him off.
    • The twolegs notice the fight and the guardian cats must leave.
      • Fierce accuses Tigerheart of antagonizing Fog.
  • Fog and her gang approach the guardian cats. Tigerheart steps out of the way to let Fierce handle it.

  • Fierce and Fog face each other.
    • Tigerheart doesn't want a physical fight, knowing it will cause injuries and they could lose their prey.
    • Tigerheart intimidates Fog into leaving.
  • Fierce tells Tigerheart they managed just fine before he arrived.
    • Blaze states he wants to be a warrior.
  • Dovewing asks what happened while Tigerheart was out.
  • Tigerheart tells his kits about how he fought off a badger once.
  • Dovewing mentions how nice it is being together without having to sneak around.
    • Tigerheart and Dovewing discuss which Clan to return to.
    • Dovewing decides she'll join ShadowClan so Tigerheart can become leader.
  • Tigerheart gets an idea for how to help Fog.

  • Tigerheart comes up with a plan to drive out the foxes that took over Fog's home.
    • With some convincing, the guardian cats agree to help.
      • Battle training begins.
  • Spire has a vision of Blaze living by the lake without him.
  • Dovewing takes the kits outside to play while the guardian cats train.
    • Tigerheart notices Blaze is a natural fighter.
  • Training is interrupted when Pouncekit gets stuck in a trap.

  • A twoleg arrives, most likely to check the trap.
  • Fierce grabs a stick to wedge open the mesh trap with.
    • Together, she and Tigerheart open the trap enough for Pouncekit to escape.
  • Tigerheart realizes the kits aren't anywhere near ready for the journey to the lake.
  • The twoleg reappears with another trap, this one containing Streak, while Fog chases after it.
    • The guardian cats hide. Tigerheart shoves Fog behind a wall.
      • Fog reveals Streak is her brother.
    • Growler shows Fierce, Cobweb, and Tigerheart where more traps are hidden.
    • Tigerheart tells Fog he wants to help her reclaim her old home.
      • Fog tells him there are five foxes living there.
    • Fog doesn't agree to fight with him, but does promise to go home if Tigerheart can drive the foxes out.

  • The guardian cats find three more traps around the gathering place.
    • Tigerheart tells them about his conversation with Fog.
      • He knows they can't fight the foxes, and instead suggests trapping them for the twolegs to take.
      • Fierce, Ant, and Cobweb offer to lead the foxes to the gathering place.
  • Tigerheart asks Tuna to bring him to the fox den.
    • Tuna agrees.
  • The next morning, Tigerheart takes his patrol out early.
    • Tuna joins them.
  • The foxes haven't returned from scavenging yet.
    • The patrol breaks into two groups; Tigerheart with Cobweb and Tuna, and Fierce with Ant.
