Nutshell
This policy in a Nutshell
To explain what personal attacks are and why you should not make them.

Don't do it

Simple. Do not personally attack someone, regardless of what they have done to you. It only makes you as bad as they are.

Being reasonable

Different people may not agree on a certain edit made on an article, or a suggestion in general. This usually may lead to attacks between both users, and sometimes, more people get involved. If there is a disagreement between two users, it is highly suggest that more users do not get involved.

Examples

Examples of personal attacks

  1. Calling someone's art / edits a "joke."
  2. Racist, sexist, homophobic comments directed against another user.
  3. Profanity against other users.
  4. Threats of violence, including death.
  5. Threats of vandalism.
  6. Being rude in general, attacking someone for their views on certain things on the Wiki or what they feel should be implemented

Examples that are not personal attacks

Users engaging in debates are mostly for use of blogs. Assume good faith, do not get into arguments, and ignore any personal attacks (or report them.) Disagreements can be discussed with others without resorting to personal attacks.

  1. Disagreements such as "I disagree with your comment" or "Your statement is a point of view, not a fact."
  2. An edit summary such as "reverting vandalism," but assume good faith before saying that.

Remedies

If you are personally attacked, you should remind the editor that this policy exists for a reason, and resort them to the civility policy as well. If they continue, consider asking an administrator for their thoughts. In extreme cases, a user may be blocked. Personal attacks that are not seen should be reported to administrators' talk pages or other places where you can contact them.

Consequences

Repeated personal attacks will result in a ban.
