[IMAGE RELOCATED] I've wanted to do this for awhile, she had to stay behind with the elders, but she was really quite young ;_;. Anyway, she was technically an elder. So yeah. --DarkHallows Lair 00:20, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Looks good, but it looks like, to me, that there's to much shading.--Warrior 00:22, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I tried to lessen the shading a bit... but I don't know.. It didn't make a huge difference.--DarkHallows Lair 00:51, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

This looks great,Sandwich989 02:46, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I said a similar thing to this on Voletooth, the shading looks very lumpy, and goes light and dark in weird places, and therefore doesn't look atural. I love the style you have done it in though, and I think it looks great! Thanks for using my blanks! :D -- Dawnfeather  06:08, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Smoothed it out... is it better?--DarkHallows Lair 14:57, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

This is beautiful, Shade. The only thing maybe is to increase the ear pink a little. But it looks nice the way it is as well. --Bramble My Realm 17:40, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Brightened it a little.--DarkHallows Lair 18:52, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Mintkit-Approved and Sagekit-Approved

File:Mintkit.PNG File:Sagekit.png

Okay, as you may have guessed, I have a whole stack of characters saved on my computer from when the project was running slowly and nothing was being approved. I'm slowly working through getting them approved so I can work on some new ones! Here are Mintkit and Sagekit from SkyClan. I've used the descriptions as mentioned in the allegiances so Mintkit is the tabby she-cat and Sagekit is the pale grey tom. Comments?  Sandy Talk! 11:17, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Bramble once posted more than one (Bouncepaw, Rockpaw, and Tinypaw), and now it isn't preferred, but I think these look great. Just one thing:Which gender is preferred, because their genders get mixed up a lot --Mallinois TalkContribs 13:07, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

I just followed the allegiances in which mintkit is a she-kit and sagekit is a tom. (And sorry, I forgot about that...)  Sandy Talk! 13:24, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

No, wait. In the allegiances it says:Mintkit-pale gray tom, Sagekit-grey tabby she-cat. You used the right genders. (And I see which one is Dovekit...)--Mallinois TalkContribs 13:44, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Allegiances Firestar's Quest ... Mintkit is the tabby she-kit on the left and Sagekit is the pale grey (longhaired) on the right (and yes, the longhaired was Dovekit but works equally well for Sagekit!)  Sandy Talk! 13:58, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Okay peoples, I thought this was about the image! :) Anyway, the shading on Sagekit's chest is really big, and should be smaller. Mintkit's eyes are really pale, and would look better darker. Also, the tabby markings are ultrathin, and you missed a little patch on her left, at the bottom. (our right). Other than that, these are wonderful. I see what you mean about making a large stokpil;e of images. I've been doing that since I first got on herein March. I posted A bad Hollyleaf which I took off within the week, and left Mousefur and the Elderblanks. I thought I would be best to not put anymore at that time. The the new rule came in and I haven't been able to put on anything else since! :D -- Dawnfeather  06:26, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

I made Sagekit's shading smaller and made the relevant changes to Mintkit. Better?  Sandy Talk! 08:34, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

The ears could be a little bit brighter, but only a teeny amount. Other than that, I'm afraid you're going to have to take out the next image in your pile! How many have you got there ayway? I've only got about 5. -- Dawnfeather  10:05, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Okay, better? [I hope the updates are showing up now...they're being slow...] (I have only a couple of cats left after these two - Adderkit and an unamed ginger was going to be Copperpaw but I haven't thought of another cat I could modify it for yet. I did have a lot more but they've been approved now (Voletooth, Whitethroat, Pouncetail, Hollykit, Applekit, Shrewpaw, Berrynose, Ivykit... I guess I can start colouring some more now :D It's about time! lol)  Sandy Talk! 12:04, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Sagekit is rather nice and he has nicely smoothed shading, and Mintkit just needs more blending on the tabby markings and a little more body shading. Good job, Sandstar. --Mallinois TalkContribs 20:09, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Wait a moment. Before we add Sagekit's picture to his article, we need to make the background transparent. Mintkit needs it, too. Could you reupload them with transparent backgrounds, Sandy? That'd be awesome. --Bramble My Realm 21:08, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Okay, I've done Sagekit and I'm going back to make the changes to Mintkit. [It takes ages to make the background transparent! I ahd to do it pixel by pixel... ]  Sandy Talk! 18:20, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Oh Sandy! Don't trouble yourself that much, I can do it for you. It takes two clicks of a mouse to make it transparent for me. I can do it for your other pictures as well. --Bramble My Realm 18:32, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

How???? I've got to work on her anyway...[ I've actually done the transparent bit now, but thanks!] I might have to redo the tabby markings to put the shading in... I know why I always avoided tabbies like the plague! lol How do you make it transparent so quickly??  Sandy Talk! 18:44, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I use Adobe Photoshop to make my pictures, and under the eraser tool there's a little default arrow. I click on that and go to the 'magic eraser' option, which looks like a reg. eraser with a firework above it. Then I just click on the background and it all turns transparent.

Oh, and if you have white on the cat, I use the magic wand tool to select the background and then use magic eraser, or else the cat'll turn transparent where there's white. Ghost!! ;) --Bramble My Realm 18:55, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I see! I don't have photoshop but I'll have to see if I can find that magic tool elsewhere :) I redid the backgrounds and blended Mintkit's tabby markings a little as well as blurring the shading further into the body a little. Better?  Sandy Talk! 18:58, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Beautiful. :) --Bramble My Realm 19:00, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks :) I found a way to do it now...grrr... I really regret taking so much time on it now! lol  Sandy Talk! 19:04, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Are there any more comments on Mintkit?  Sandy Talk! 17:02, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

The would-be usurper. I tried to make him look mottled, as that's what his description says. What does everyone think? --Bramble My Realm 19:16, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I really like him :) He does look mottled - nice job. The annoying thing about your work? I sit in front of the screen trying to find fault with it and get more annoyed as I find it very hard to! I think perhaps some more shading on his chest and between the front and back leg .  Sandy Talk! 19:35, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Aw, thanks Sandy! I added the shading, but I don't know if you can tell too much on the chest. --Bramble My Realm 19:42, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

You can see the shading and I think this is better now. I personally think it should be approved but does anyone else have any comments?  Sandy Talk! 19:50, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

you can barely see the pupil of the eye, and there needs to be more shading in that gap on the belly, between the legs. -- Dawnfeather  05:59, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't exactly know how to make the pupil more visible, but I changed the eye color to amber, maybe that will help. I also added more shading on the belly. --Bramble My Realm 16:13, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Sorreltail - Approved

Ahhh, bliss. I finally got to upload her. What do you think? I did the tabby markings (that are often found on the ginger part of a tortie's pelt) in the Heathertail fashion, as I think that they are more realistic than the other ones. What do you think? -- Dawnfeather  06:02, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

This is beautiful, Dawnfeather! I love the softness of it all. I always pictured Sorreltail with more white, but that's just me. The only thing I see wrong with it is teh ear pink is too dark. Try lightening it up a bit. :) --Goldencloud 13:45, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

This is great, but she has more white then that.Sandwich989 14:27, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

It's great Dawn. The only thing that I see is that it could use a little more shading under the chin.--DarkHallows Lair 16:21, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I think it has plenty of shading, but maybe add in some white like Sandwich and Goldencloud suggested, and make the ear pink more pink. --Bramble My Realm 17:40, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I uploaded again. Make that, I tried to upload again. The site won't even let me get up that 'upload a picture' box. how annoying. I fixed the ear easily, but then I couldn't get of the white 'estenions' to look right. One looked ookayish, and so I will upload that one with the old version with a modified ear. -- Dawnfeather  22:55, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I finally managed to get them uploaded. What do you think? -- Dawnfeather  05:57, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

I personally like the one on the far left best :)  Sandy Talk! 14:37, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

I agree with Sandy. --Bramble My Realm 16:31, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

So what would you like me to do with it to make it better? -- Dawnfeather  06:06, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

It's really very good Dawn! The only thing that's getting at me a bit is that the ear pink is a strange translucent purplish colour and isn't very visible but isn't really part of the cat either. I think it needs to be more central in the ear and a different shade of pink so it doesn't look like you just stuck it on top (if that makes sense)  Sandy Talk! 13:26, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps add some white n the tail, too, to make the color more balanced. --Bramble My Realm 13:52, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

I uploaded two version of the 'one on the far left', both with changed ears, but only one with white on the tail. -- Dawnfeather  22:57, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Um, only one of them has the ear change and neither of them have white on the tail.. --Bramble My Realm 23:10, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Oh... IT DIDN'T SAVE! ... That's just plain annoying. i'll do it again. -- Dawnfeather  23:32, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Okay. i re-did it, but I really think that the old white on the tail was better. And I aws so sure I saved. ... -- Dawnfeather  23:40, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

That's okay, the computer all kicks us sometime. I personally like the one with white, but that's just me. --Bramble My Realm 23:59, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

I like the one white white too. Really pretty Dawnfeather.-- Darkhallows  Lair 07:23, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Okay, this is my frostfur, which you might have seen when I was doing the final stages of my Elder blanks. Unlike Darkfoot, I thought it was half good, so I kept it! -- Dawnfeather  00:57, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

The highlights seem a little bright. Can you tone them done a bit? Otherwise, I quite like it.-- Darkhallows  Lair 07:12, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

I reuploaded. I tryed to de-brighten the highlights a bit, but I'm not sure if it worked very well. -- Dawnfeather  07:30, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

I think the highlight on the muzzle/head area is too sharply defined, maybe blend it more or make it a less popping(for want of a better word) color. --Bramble My Realm 02:37, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

I made it less 'popping', i think. You know Bramble, for a word that is completely un-related to what you were talking about, you used 'popping' beautifully and descriptively. I think I even sort of understood what you meant! -- Dawnfeather  02:59, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure if that was criticism or a compliment, but thanks either way! :) I don't really see anything else, except for maybe make the ear a tad pinker. Like I said in Otterheart's section, hard to find any fault. --Bramble My Realm 03:10, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

It was a compliment. :D Thanks, i haven't even uploaded many pictures before because Before the pictures I have up now, I only ever had Mousefur and the blanks. IMAGE RELOCATED

This is Dawnpaw, Tawnypelts kit. Please tell me if I am over doing this, as this is image number three of mine up at the moment. I will take it down if anyone has any problems. It's just i'm on here so often, yet there is so little to do! So, yeah. Tell me what you think! -- Dawnfeather  02:17, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

I really like this, it's a very pretty shade of gray that you used. I think the only thing is that the ear looks like a shade of lavender in my opinion, and maybe you could use a more light pink color. Other than that minor thing, beautiful. Perhaps you won't mind if I do her kit version after Otterheart. :) --Bramble My Realm 02:45, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

I reuploaded, and i had a bit of trouble making the gray around the perimeter of the ear visble. (Speaking of perimeter, my year 10 maths text book seemed to think it didn't know what one was and spent a while explaining it to me. I think I already knew for some reason!). But back to the subject of Dawnpaw, you should have seen me when I read that Tawnypelt had kits. (In 'The Sight', or 'Dark River') I was practically screaming TAWNYPELT HAS A KIT CALLED DAWNKIT! to everyone i saw for the entire day. And then when I found out she was gray with amber eyes like what dawnfeather would... I was so excited. A main-ish character named Dawn..! Yay! -- Dawnfeather  03:07, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Much better! Off-topic: Yes, I hate when the math book tells me stuff I've already known since I was like 10. Btw, it would be so awesome if Dawnpaw's warrior name was Dawnfeather! I would send you a message saying something like "OMSC you're in the book!!" On the image, I don't see anything else wrong with it at all. Anyone else have anything? --Bramble My Realm 03:15, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I wish they weren't on the other side of the lake. They were much better neighbpurs than Windclan. This is very well done, and the shading is beautiful. I agree with Sandy, 'The most annoying thing about your work is that it is hard to find a fault in it!' Howver, I do think that the ear looks a bit unnatural. No, I don't think so. I do think that 'pale tabby stripes' is meant to mean 'paler' than that base colour. This could be difficult, but have a go and save it separetly from this picture. I reckon it could work if you do it right. Out of these tabby stripes, and the ones that you just had, I prefer the old ones. -- Dawnfeather  06:54, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Personally, I think that this should be approved. Darky, if you have time, could you help me add in the tabby markings of one of my cats that I felt like making a picture of on here? The problem is, the markings are meant to be a lot darker than her actual pelt. -- Dawnfeather  10:22, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Hazeltail - Approved

I noticed that Hazeltail didn't have any character art, and I love her to death, so I decided to color her! I did my best to try to make her gray markings look realistic. I used a tutorial and a few references to get her to look just right. I'm no expert, though, and any help you can give is greatly appreciated! Also, if something looks wrong, please tell me how to fix it. "It looks bad" doesn't tell me anything. --Goldencloud 00:05, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

EDIT1 After multiple attempts, I finally got the new version to upload. I separated the gray patches, and gave her white-tipped ears and tail. Also darkened shadows. --Goldencloud 00:45, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
EDIT2 I rounded out the splotches. --Goldencloud 02:16, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
EDIT3 I randomized the splotches just a little bit. I hope I didn't go overboard again. --Goldencloud 23:58, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
EDIT4 Added a bit of shading on the chest, hopefully it looks better now. Thanks everyone for the help! I appreciate it. --Goldencloud 02:45, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
EDIT5 Extended shading up her chest. Also blended shadow of the ear a bit. I hope that's what you meant, Bramble! --Goldencloud 21:48, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
EDIT6 Added shading to back of neck, extended front of neck shading back, and added shading on front leg. Also extended shading up along back of leg. --Goldencloud 19:08, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
EDIT7 Wow, this is a lot of edits! I added a wee bit of shading to the middle back, and more to the back of the neck. Just a little more on chest, also. I hope I nailed all of Dawnfeather's points of concern. --Goldencloud 22:10, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
EDIT8 Added a little more shading in spots. --Goldencloud 00:47, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
EDIT9 Put chest shading back. It ran away. D: Also added head shading and took some off of back of shoulder. --Goldencloud 23:41, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

I think the problem is that she needs separate patches like Brightheart's not one huge wavy patch. Try putting white in between them. --MsT C 01:13, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
I did, and I do think it looks better now. --Goldencloud 00:45, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I agree. The ear needs some gray or white on it, and there needs to be more shading aroung the outside. Maybe a highlight too? -- Dawnfeather  06:03, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

I put white tips on her ears. I tried giving her highlights, but it was hard to see on top of her white fur. I didn't add shading around the outside because the light-source is coming from overhead, not from the "camera". --Goldencloud 00:45, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I think this looks awesome!Sandwich989

Thank you! :D --Goldencloud 00:45, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

This is very pretty, Goldencloud. I think it might look better though with a patch of gray on the belly, to break up the white a little more in that section. And maybe shrink the ear pink so it doesn't take up the whole ear. Other than that this is beautiful. --Bramble Bramble's Realm 01:35, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you, Bramble! I had added a gray patch on her belly, but it looked odd there so I tried to expand the splotch on her back so there's less white space there. I also shrunk the ear pink a little bit. --Goldencloud 02:16, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

I think the patches look unnatural, try making them more rounded, not all wavy and curvy and random. --MallinoisHerding Talk 22:13, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
I rounded them off. --Goldencloud 02:16, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
I like it, but, like everyone else said, the patches look wavy..--Warrior 00:19, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! I did round them off a bit, especially the one on her back. It does look a lot better now. --Goldencloud 02:16, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Sorry to be fussy, but now they look very round, and even. Make then shapes a bit more random. -- Dawnfeather  02:51, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Looks awesome, but it could use shading on the chest.--Warrior 15:04, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I see what you were referring to now. I added a touch of shading on the chest. Thanks!--Goldencloud 04:28, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Warrior's right - shading is also needed on the back  Sandy Talk! 15:05, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

There shouldn't be shading on the back. The light is coming from over her head, not from the camera. --Goldencloud 04:28, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

It doesn't look right having both the veritcal part of her chest and the vertical part of her neck without shading. Chose one to put shading on, but only for that small section. -- Dawnfeather  07:11, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Hmm...okeetay. I think I understand what you're talking about. I added a bit of shading on her chest, is that what you were referring to? --Goldencloud 02:35, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

This is very lovely. If you could blend the ear pink a little more and add a touch more shading to the chest, above where there is already shading, this should be ready for approval. --Bramble My Realm 17:40, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you so much, Bramble. Your kind words mean a lot to me! I did extend the chest shading, and blended the shadow of the ear more. Is that what you were referring to when you said I should blend the ear pink? --Goldencloud 21:48, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Yes. Good job. Are there any other comments for improvement? --Bramble My Realm 16:31, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

This looks great. Although the patches look wavy, they look good and the shading is good.Sandwich989

It still needs more shading on the chest and back.--Warrior 14:24, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but how do you figure that there should be shading on the chest and back? The light source is coming from over her head, so shadows would not be cast on the back or that part of the chest. When light doesn't make shadows on what it directly hits. --Goldencloud 21:02, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
I agree with Warrior, there needs to be much more shading on the back and chest. Also add some to the head too, but not alot. Adding it to the back ear and the forehead should be fine.-- ♪Shimmer 18:34, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
No, there should not be. I'm really not trying to start an argument or be stubborn, I just want to explain why I'm not adding shading to these spots you say need shading. The light source in the picture is coming from above, therefore the shadows would be on the underside of everything. Shadows don't appear where light is hitting an object. --Goldencloud 21:02, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I agree with Goldencloud. The are many parts of the back and chest which are being hit with direct light, but i think that for that to be possible, there are actually a few places tha need shading.

Just behind the shoulder
a littlebit on the back of the head
just below the headd, across the body.
just below the shoulder, across the body.

These spots are in shadow because something sticks up just infront of them, or there is a part of the body that is wider than it, etc. If that made any sense. I think that the shading you do have needs to be blended into the pelt more. -- Dawnfeather  23:47, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Done! At least, I think I did what you were saying. I didn't really know what you meant when you said "across the body". Thank you! --Goldencloud 18:54, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

I love her!!! How did you do the eye?!?! It's so realistic!!! --MUMBLE785 20:20, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you! *huggles* Doing the eye was pretty easy. Here's a close up of the pixels of the eye. The middle pixel is of course the base color of the eye. The farthest left pixel is a few shades lighter, and the pixels to the right and on the bottom are a darker shade. The white highlight is on top. I hope that helps! --Goldencloud 18:54, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Forgive me for making thiese disgustiong marks on your beautiful picture, but I thought it might help show you where the shading should go. I see that you have done some behind the head, but it could do with some more. The head is wider than the neck, so put some over the body there too. On the back, there is a bit of the shoulder that sticks out, so begind that needs some shading. Also, the shoulder, all the way across the body, is wider than the next bit of cat, so it too will be in a bit of shadow. However, I must agree that this is good, and it should be ready for approval once you have tried these things. In terms of the picture, just open up this one next to your un-spoilt Hazeltail, and refer to the red markings as you go. Hope I helped! -- Dawnfeather  06:15, 3 June 2009 (UTC

That's okay, I'm glad you did. Now I see what you were talking about. I hope I got everything okay. Thanks so much for all this help you're giving me. :) I'll have to use the same shading layer for all my future character arts so we don't have to go through all this again. --Goldencloud 22:10, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
Dawnfeather, thats a really good way to show people where to make corrections! If it hasn't been done before, I think you couldve done something really helpful to show people where to make the corrections. You know what I mean?Sandwich989 01:50, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

 • choking up with emotion* Thanks, Sandwich! I feel touched. :S  ;_;  :) -- Dawnfeather  10:21, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm sorry, yet again, for mutilating your picture. The red areas are areas you missed, or that need to join shading on the front and back, in a way that makes them look as if they go around the wide points on the body. The blue areas are where you could possible put highlights. Does this help? -- Dawnfeather  00:22, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Oh, don't worry about it. :D I added more shading to it, and I tried highlights, but they didn't show up against the white fur, and it made it look weird. I think I'll leave out the highlights for this one. And yes, that helps a lot! --Goldencloud 20:48, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Ahhh! The shading is gone from the chest! You still need a little bit on the head where I put that red mark. Also, with that shading behind the shoulder, a little bit sticks out upwards. Get rid of that and fix the other things and this should be good to go. -- Dawnfeather  05:51, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Noes! It must have run away! I captured it and put it back. I fixed everything you said, is it good now? --Goldencloud 23:41, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes; blend the shading a lot more as well. Also shorten the neck shading so it doesn't stick out so much; that's what got you on Clovertail. Maybe you could add a pupil on the eye as well. Other than that, very nice colors and basic structure. Good job. --Bramble My Realm 22:58, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
