Project Charart
This is a project discussion page, where a group of dedicated editors may come together and work towards their common goal.
For more information on projects, please see the community portal.
This is the Project Character Art Approvals Page
Place new character art for approval here.
Discussions should be routed to the discussion page, while all Art tweaks should be routed to the tweak page, and all Tweak nominations should be routed to the nominations page.

Chararts needing to be done are here
Here are some guidelines all users must comply with:
  1. Make sure to follow the guidelines.
  2. The limit is 50 images. If you exceed it, your image will be immediately declined.
  3. Your image is yours until it is archived, do not reserve a new one until yours has completed CBA and/or has been archived due to other matters.
  4. If your image has been declined due to the one month limit, you must wait two weeks to reclaim your image. This gives other users the chance to work on it if they wish.
  5. If your image has gone less than five (5) days without comments, please do not ask for comments or a CBA. It is common to go a couple consecutive days without comments before a CBA is set into place. To ask before the five day timespan has passed puts your image at risk of being declined.
  6. Please do not align your images! This messes up the structure of the page.

Brown tabby-and-white rogue (Ro)- For Approval[]

TROS.rogue-8 kitty cat Brambleheart ♥ ♫ 21:19, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

I think the shading could be smoothed out on the haunch and belly, reduced on the closer foreleg, and more could be added under the chin. - Arenzel 22:16, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

can you define the shading? Winter Just say my name! »22:21, 13 March 2024 (UTC)«

there is also some leaky shading on the hind leg towards the paw closest to us ~WILLOWTHROAT~ 00:12, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Reups Brambleheart ♥ ♫ 01:22, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

just the tinniest little speck of waste by the tail. i love these stripes ~WILLOWTHROAT~ 01:31, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

i think this guy also needs a nicked ear ~WILLOWTHROAT~ 15:55, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Reups I checked with the discord and because the ear nick in the art is on a part of the ear which isn’t visible from this angle, it isn’t necessary. Also shout out to my magic wand tool for including that speck, really making life easier lol Brambleheart ♥ ♫ 02:37, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

I think the shading overall looks a bit blocky and flat—if the light is coming from the bottom, the shading could be reduced on the legs. For shading placement, I think it could flow better with the shape of the body, to give a visual I’ve redlined the torso. I also recommend referencing images like File:TROS.rogue-12.png or File:Mouse Ear.rogue.png ^^ - Arenzel 03:58, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

reups Brambleheart ♥ ♫ 01:49, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Could you potentially tweak the shading color just a little bit? It looks like it's blending in with the stripe color, if that makes sense. Jayce(01:54, 3/16/2024)

reups Brambleheart ♥ ♫ 21:53, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

The colors need to match exactly with the official artwork, but I think it's the saturated shading that's causing issues. Vec I am Iron Man! 👾 23:12, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

If it isn’t already, the shading layer should be set to “multiply“ so that it doesn’t blend in with the stripes or pelt. - Arenzel 18:25, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

Reups thanks for the tip! Brambleheart ♥ ♫ 16:30, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

Curlfeather (Prisoner) ~ For Approval[]

Curlfeather.prisoner she’s beauty, she’s grace… remember when she wasn’t evil lmao? Good times. Illusion ☄. *. ⋆ 21:43, 3/13/2024

I think the shading on > side of the neck/back could be expanded if the light is coming from the >, and some shading could be added at the base of the tail where it meets the body. There's also a few bits of waste between the fur tufts on the back. - Arenzel 22:16, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

i also think that the depth could be defined just a bit ~WILLOWTHROAT~ 00:07, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Should the ears be more curled to match her other sprites? It could just be a positioning thing though Brambleheart ♥ ♫ 00:11, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

her ears aren't curled on the other sprites, its just the tufts that make them look curled ~WILLOWTHROAT~ 00:16, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

I feel like there could be a bit less shading on the ear tufts, they seem a little too dark to me. I also cant see any shading on the nose, could you add or if there is any, darken it? Mime smoothie (talk) 09:20, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Reupped Illusion ☄. *. ⋆ 14:04, 3/16/2024

Perhaps adjust the shading tint so it's more of a reddish tint? Comparing this now with the rest of the set makes it stand out a bit. I think you can keep the darkness, like the queen, but saturate it a bit more. Also, I can't tell if it's the shading or not, but the earpink seems a tad darker compared to the set too, but feel free to correct me on that ^^ Vec I am Iron Man! 👾 23:14, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Reupped, I swapped the shading entirely because I hated the light source I used LOL Illusion ☄. *. ⋆ 00:12, 3/17/2024

Duskfur (Prisoner) - For Evaluation[]

Duskfur.prisoner

23:15, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

Nice work :) I think the shading could be defined and sharpened overall--I'd suggest referencing other prisoner images for shading, such as File:Mintfur (RC).prisoner.png, File:Stormfur.prisoner.png, or File:Twigbranch.prisoner.png. The stripes could also be thicker, and if you'd like, I can also send you the psd file for her elder/leader images via Discord ^^ - Arenzel 23:48, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

That would be great, thanks!

23:50, 13 March 2024 (UTC) I upped the opacity on the shading and made the stripes thicker. Does this look good? If this isn't the shading you're looking for, is there a tutorial somewhere on that defined/sharpened shading?

23:59, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

Looking good! I see some waste (content outside of the lines) from the shading, could you remove that? The eyes need more defined highlights, and the stripes may need to be smoothened. I recommend using smudge tool, a painting brush, or a smaller brush to go over the stripes to give them a more smoothened look for the fur. Brambleheart ♥ ♫ 00:08, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

i think if you made your lineart the top layer, that would get rid of some of it. could you also dull the highlights on the tail? ~WILLOWTHROAT~ 00:11, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Sounds good! A few questions, when I use the smudge tool, should I go over the lines completely or in a specific pattern? Should I highlight the eyes by adding white shading or making the eyes a brighter color? With the tail, should I choose a darker color or add less of the gradient? Thanks!

01:05, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

when i use the smudge tool (which is not a whole lot so sorry if this is bad/confusing) i smudge it along the general direction of fur. so in this case i would smudge the body in an arc, and the legs separately. As for the highlights, you only need to do 1 or 2 pixels without blurring, as seen in other files such as File:Stormfur.prisoner.png and File:Sol.prisoner.png. i also think that you could define the shading all over, with guides as File:Stonefur.prisoner.png and File:Twigbranch.prisoner.png. This looks great, and i know it can be hard at first :) ~WILLOWTHROAT~ 01:17, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Made a new version. Drew the eyes on instead (since prisoners don't seem to have defined eyes, most have just been drawing it on it seems), tried the smudge fur technique, and removed a tiny bit of shading near the eyes. I added multiply and changed the color of shading to a dark brown. How's this? Maybe I could make it sharper; would I just redo the shading but blur it less?

01:38, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

this looks so good! no, the shading seems just fine for now. the stripes (im sorry) could be a little less smudged. You use ibis paint x, yes? i like to lower the opacity or strength of my smudge tools, and that usually helps me have a more controlled smudge. ~WILLOWTHROAT~ 01:47, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Redid the smudging with 70% power instead of 100%.

02:00, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Looks much better! I think the pale part on the tail could be expanded and made less blurry. I fear you may have over smudged the stripes a bit—-I would suggest taking a slightly softer brush (I use Ibis as well; I’d probably use “Dip Pen (Soft)“) at a thin size and lower opacity and lightly drawing over the stripes just to give them more shape. More shading could also be added to the back/neck and the tail. - Arenzel 03:28, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Added some more shading to the tail and back and tried the smudge fur once again. I don't think I'm understanding the right technique, but I tried to use less strokes to make this one. Should I just redraw the stripes with a softer brush? Should I be doing multiple strokes? I'm doing multiple strokes to keep the fur consistent to make it look like it's going in a certain direction.

04:38, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

looks fine to me, but i dont really have a whole lot of experience with the smudge brush. i think some shading could be added to the -> paw. I could also send over a shading placement chart via discord if it helped. ~WILLOWTHROAT~ 15:51, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Shading placement would be awesome, thanks! I couldn't find the shading placement on the tutorials page so I referenced Icewing's prisoner, but more defined shading would be great, thank you! My Discord is raquesis_lionheart.

16:31, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Earlier I was basically saying that you may have smudged the stripes a bit too much--I think that you could still take a pencil/pen (not smudge) brush and draw over them to help fix that, since they currently blend into the fur a bit too much imo. The muzzle and tail should also have the pale color that's on the chest. - Arenzel 22:24, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Looking better! My comment about the waste still stands though it seems that the stripes are of main concern right now. I use ibis paint x as well. What I do with my stripes is use a small sized dip pen brush to go over the stripes. It helps give a smudged effect without over smudging. You can also do that when adding the pale colours to make them flow more with the main pelt colour. And for the waste, it appears to be from the shading layer on —> side. It’s just best to erase it out, but be sure to use a small eraser when close to lines since we don’t want the shading to be erased! Brambleheart ♥ ♫ 02:42, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

i think she needs a pale muzzle. Winter Just say my name! »03:11, 15 March 2024 (UTC)«

Added a pale muzzle and redid the shading. I also went over the smudged stripes to try and make them less oversmudged, did I do it right?

04:52, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

I like the progress you've made! Could you lighten the shading just a bit? It appears rather dark. Jayce(04:56, 3/15/2024)

Forgot to lower the opacity of the shading later, whoops.

04:59, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

this looks good for a first time :) i think the edges of the paler muzzle could be smudged or blurred, just a tad to make it blend more with the fur. ~WILLOWTHROAT~ 14:04, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

if you also put your shading layer on 45 % opacity it will be just dark enough to define the shading, without making the image look overly-shaded. (i hope that made sense) ~WILLOWTHROAT~ 14:19, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

Lowered opacity of shading to 45% and blurred the muzzle.

14:55, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

i still can't see the paler parts of the muzzle. Winter Just say my name! »21:32, 15 March 2024 (UTC)«

agreeing with winter on this, i think it could be defined. if you redid it and went over the edgeds with a 9 % opacity bursh as did with the shading, it would be okay. ~WILLOWTHROAT~ 21:34, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

Adding onto the previous comments about the pale parts, erasing some of the shading on the muzzle might also help it stand out more. There still also doesn't seem to be the pale color on the tail that's visible at the top of the tail on the warrior, elder, and leader. - Arenzel 22:12, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

Got rid of some shading near the muzzle and readded and dulled the tail part again.

22:31, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

i feel like it could be defined more, i'd look at File:Duskfur.leader.png for the pale muzzle and tail placement. :) Winter Just say my name! »23:54, 15 March 2024 (UTC)«

Is this better?

02:54, 16 March 2024 (UTC) I feel like the muzzle needed a redo so I redid it. Am I missing anything? Should I redo anything else?

14:07, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

I think the pale parts on the muzzle and tail look a bit too blurry at the edges. The shading also looks a bit cloudy and flat—I would recommend adding a second layer of thinner shading on top to make it pop a bit more (my general rule of thumb is to have the second layer be about half the size of the main shading layer); the apprentice tutorials have some tips for shading depth at Warriors Wiki:Charart/Apprentice Tutorials#White cats which may help as well ^^ - Arenzel 18:35, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

23:33, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

i think if you give the paler undertail the same amount of definition as the muzzle, it would be better ~WILLOWTHROAT~ 23:41, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

Grayish Brown-and-White Rouge (R) - For Evaluation[]

TROS.rogue-9 fixed! >:) zombies

Make sure you've added this image reservation to the table on the project's main page; and the with white means a grayish-brown cat that also has white markings. However, for this image you're matching this cat's appearance to their look from the book itself. max it is the real thing, (19:53, 16/3/2024)

I could remake it, the current one isn't too complicated to be fixed. But thanks. :) zombies

i can add your reservation for you, if you'd like. also make sure to sign your comments with four ~'s so you get your signature and time, like mine. ~WILLOWTHROAT~ 20:02, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

I don't think it's required to also put the time there, as i sincerely believe. (also i'm kinda a noob at signatures) Also thanks for the offer, but no need. :) zombies

It is a requirement, so that when leads come to call for final comments, we can see how long it has been between uploads. Also when you have reuploaded the image to fix anything, make sure you're leaving a new comment to reflect that and not editing the original one. max it is the real thing, (21:12, 16/3/2024)

Adding on, you can easily do it by typing ~~~~ or pressing the signature button on the top bar, and it'll automatically convert into a signature and timestamp once you save the edit. As for the image, I think there could be more shading on the torso overall. - Arenzel 21:19, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

I've gone ahead and renamed this file to File:TROS.rogue-9.png, please continue to reupload over that. I've also added you to our reservation table. It is a requirement that you add your name, the image that you're doing, and the date added (like I've done for you) or you will lose claim to your images. It's how we keep track of who is doing what image. Per the official artwork, I don't think this cat should have a white tail-tip or paws. Vec I am Iron Man! 👾 23:11, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
