Lol you're right. The tail and belly read that the light coming from our right, and the hind leg off the ground as well as the face read coming from the left, and the other legs are too flat to read. Smooth out the back shading - it appears a bit blotchy. Also, thin out the shading on the tail's tip - it looks a bit too gray. Queen Beebs 21:47, December 12, 2013 (UTC)

I think you may have forgotten to have the shading run along the side of the belly with the shoulder, rather than the thigh, which is where you currently have it. User:Kelpsey/Sig 03:48 Fri Dec 13

I think it's fine, honestly. User:Kelpsey/Sig 08:53 Sun Dec 15

I disagree. I think it should be defined along the legs, and I believe the tail should be given more light on it. She's also looking slightly gray, but not too gray where it becomes an issue. Jayce(08:55, 12/15/2013)

I think the mudspots look fine. The shading looks a tad bit harsh, could you lighten it or tint the shading more? Iveh Yo! 18:25, December 11, 2013 (UTC)

Ah! That would make more sense. Thanks, Beebs. cx Cloudy, may you define the tail shading please?  Frosty ☾Supernatural 20:58, December 9, 2013 (UTC)

I know white pattern realism isn't something that's enforced, so it's your choice, but I'd still strongly recommend using a more realistic white pattern. This one's fairly unrealistic, and I think the image would look better as a whole with a more plausible pattern. But as I said, it's up to you since it's not an enforced rule or requirement. Paleh Send help 00:49,12/10/2013

Darkfrost, please don't repeat Beebs' comment. Also, Paleh, I'll go ahead and fix it up a bit since I'm really not in the mood to have the image nominated or a dozen comments telling me to change it. Jayce(05:48, 12/10/2013)

The only reason I repeated, is because I thought you'd say that the tail shading was fine, when it definitely wasn't. So, my apologizes.  Frosty ☾Supernatural 13:08, December 10, 2013 (UTC)

Okay can you try and not be offensive, please? Perhaps next time, you could phrase it a little nicer? ._. Anyways, re-uploaded and I basically just went back to the other pattern I had with a few fixes. Jayce(18:27, 12/10/2013)

I wasn't being offensive? I'm sorry if it sounded like that, but it really wasn't.  Frosty ☾Supernatural 23:56, December 10, 2013 (UTC)

"...because I thought you'd say that the tail shading was fine, when it {definitely wasn't}."brackets inserted by me seems a little offensive imho, just for future reference. Moving on, smudge the markings a teensy tiny bit more? This is cute! OuO User:Kelpsey/Sig 01:54 Wed Dec 11

I'd rather not smudge them but if someone else agrees then I guess I'll do it? Jayce(07:03, 12/11/2013)

Smudge the white marking a little more, because she's in a long-haired blank and her fur would be a touch more crazy. x3 Rainlegs 05:14, December 12, 2013 (UTC)

Re-uploaded. Beep. Jayce(05:19, 12/12/2013)

Sorry if I sound rude, but the way you smudged the patches doesn't flow with the fur. Like, at the top (I guess the white is kind of shaped like a cross, so) under the extended parts at the sides, it's smudged downwards, but at the lower part, its smudged side-to-side. Either have the majority of it side to side (with a little curve when necessary) or Down (which is probably more realistic)? I'm sorry if I sound offensive. User:Kelpsey/Sig 09:07 Thu Dec 12

White placement isn't an enforced part of the whole "realism thing", which I still think we're getting far too out of hand with that, and I'd think smudging would apply to that. Honestly, I think it's fine, and it's not that bad... Jayce(12:22, 12/12/2013)

I think it should be smudged a little more, as she's long-haired and a kitten. It'd look a bit scrappy, and trust me, you won't be over-smudging it right now. Rainlegs 00:10, December 13, 2013 (UTC)

I'd rather not, actually. It clashes too much with the white, and makes the gray look really bad. Jayce(04:55, 12/17/2013)

Then shall we go CBA? ~Scarletwind"Time to go home Flap." 23:35, December 17, 2013 (UTC)

I've shaded like this on other images before, and I've been told it's fine. I'd rather another opinion before I change it. Jayce(03:52, 12/19/2013)

Kelpsey's right, and the shading should be switched on the tail, too. Or you could leave those the same and switch what side of the body its on. Your choice, but the first option would be easiest ouo Rainlegs 04:24, December 19, 2013 (UTC)

The depth itself is fine, I think. Although since she is dark gray, would you object to adding a little bit of light in the non-shaded areas so it doesn't appear to be all in shading? If you add the lighter parts (but not all that light), that might make it seem a little more... "depth-y" for lack of a better word? Jayce(19:18, 12/9/2013)

re-up Queen Beebs 19:26, December 9, 2013 (UTC)

The face's highlights, particularly on her left cheek, seem a bit bright for the light coming behind her. The head would block most light, especially on that side of the face, causing no shading. Hawk Swoop is an example of what I'm trying to describe..her light is coming form behind her and a little to her right, so you'd get thin, narrow highlights on one side of her face. Rainlegs 05:10, December 12, 2013 (UTC)

re-up I removed that highlight but that's it - I don't think her face highlights aren't that bright, imo ouo Queen Beebs 20:18, December 12, 2013 (UTC)

Remember that your light is coming from behind her rear- her forehead, that is, if she has one, will block most of the light. You're working with a 3D shape, therefore, there will be parts covered entirely by things that block the light from reaching that point. Trust me on this. Rainlegs 00:09, December 13, 2013 (UTC)

If the texture is supposed to be tabby stripes, perhaps define their shape a little? They look almost like darker tortie patches, which they shouldn't be. If it's texture, then thin it out, so that it looks like lines of hair instead of giant patches. Rainlegs 05:08, December 12, 2013 (UTC)

Since it's texture, smudge it to go a bit more with the direction of the fur, so it looks like fur. Cinderpelt and several other images are good examples of this, if a reference would be helpful. Rainlegs 04:57, December 13, 2013 (UTC)

Blur/soften the edge of the shading more. It's pretty hard-edged to be that dark. Rainlegs 22:31, December 21, 2013 (UTC)

I don't want to do that, it might make it flat. Sorrel It's everything I dreamed 23:58, December 21, 2013 (UTC)

It's too hard-edged right now though, and doesn't look 3D. Look at how a typical sphere is shaded, and note how the transition in shading should be rather soft from light to dark, in a gradual transition. The belly of this cat is virtually a giant, slightly oblong sphere, along with the rest of the cat's body. Rainlegs 07:02, December 22, 2013 (UTC)

Sorrel, I'll have to agree with Leggy. May I ask how you blur? (With what tool?) ☽➸ Hawky Void Shadowshot16:07 Sun Dec 22

I Gaussian blur.Sorrel It's everything I dreamed 16:12, December 22, 2013 (UTC)

I can recommend using the blur tool and changing the opacity to 100%. If you use GIMP, you can do that by going to the bottom of the tool options side and there will be a bar that says "Opacity". Drag that to 100, and you can blur select areas without having to worry about the edges fading away. This being an example. This should solve the problem. ;) ☽➸ Hawky Void Shadowshot16:53 Sun Dec 22

Reups this is as blurred as it can get without being flat. Sorrel It's everything I dreamed 17:41, December 22, 2013 (UTC)

Gaussian blur is good if you're trying to get a base to start with, although most areas to make something look 3D have to be blurred at different rates in different areas. For rounder shapes, it has to be blurred a lot more, while sharper angles, like behind a shoulder or the cheekbones on a face, have sharper lines of shading. On GIMP, for this, I take the fuzziest smudge tool I can get, at about a size of 30 or so, and then smudge the shading slightly, to make it flare out more. Give that a shot, because the last blurring you just did didn't really do much to add to the shape. Rainlegs 17:56, December 22, 2013 (UTC)

Reups I hope this is what you envisioned Sorrel It's everything I dreamed 00:51, December 23, 2013 (UTC)

Are you using the super fuzzy brush? The one that looks the most blurry? If you're using the right tool at the right size it won't look like that; it'll look like you blurred it and smeared it a bit. Rainlegs 00:57, December 23, 2013 (UTC)

It's not working out at all. I see nothing wrong with the last version... Sorrel It's everything I dreamed 02:33, December 23, 2013 (UTC)
