Could you specify what you mean? Just saying that is extremely vague and not really helpful at all, imho. Jayce(04:39, 11/16/2013)

Lol you're right. The tail and belly read that the light coming from our right, and the hind leg off the ground as well as the face read coming from the left, and the other legs are too flat to read. I'll make a tutorial and put it up on a subpage of mine, I'm working on it. User:Kelpsey/Sig 18:33 Sat Nov 16

Could you smooth out the shading on the chest? It's starting to get a tad blotchy. Queen Beebs 23:29, November 18, 2013 (UTC)

Also, have the shading run along this >> side of the belly, as it's throwing off the light source? User:Kelpsey/Sig 02:01 Wed Dec 11

Reups Amber The One and Only16:19 Thu Dec 12

Smooth out the back shading - it appears a bit blotchy. Also, thin out the shading on the tail's tip - it looks a bit too gray. Queen Beebs 21:47, December 12, 2013 (UTC)

I think you may have forgotten to have the shading run along the side of the belly with the shoulder, rather than the thigh, which is where you currently have it. User:Kelpsey/Sig 03:48 Fri Dec 13

Define the shading. This is amazing! --User:Glitterpelt/Sig 01:24, December 14, 2013 (UTC)

I think it's fine, honestly. User:Kelpsey/Sig 08:53 Sun Dec 15

I disagree. I think it should be defined along the legs, and I believe the tail should be given more light on it. She's also looking slightly gray, but not too gray where it becomes an issue. Jayce(08:55, 12/15/2013)

Define the gray on our right ear.. it seems a lot lighter than our left one.  Frosty ☾Supernatural 21:41, December 17, 2013 (UTC)

I agree. However, I don't think you should lower the opacity, just make it an orangey color and set it on overlay, that should do the trick. User:Kelpsey/Sig 01:11 Wed Dec 11

Reups I can do zat Emberpoppy7 (talk) 21:08, December 11, 2013 (UTC)

They're still a little bright. Layer mode>Multiply, then colorize if you use GIMP. Not sure what to do if you don't, though. User:Kelpsey/Sig 23:47 Wed Dec 11

I use photoshop elements. I'll see what I can do though. Reups Emberpoppy7 (talk) 23:53, December 11, 2013 (UTC)

If the texture is supposed to be tabby stripes, perhaps define their shape a little? They look almost like darker tortie patches, which they shouldn't be. If it's texture, then thin it out, so that it looks like lines of hair instead of giant patches. Rainlegs 05:08, December 12, 2013 (UTC)

This better? Emberpoppy7 (talk) 13:31, December 12, 2013 (UTC)

Are they stripes or texture? Rainlegs 00:07, December 13, 2013 (UTC)

Texture. Emberpoppy7 (talk) 01:55, December 13, 2013 (UTC)

It was still crappy so I changed it. Emberpoppy7 (talk) 02:14, December 13, 2013 (UTC)

Since it's texture, smudge it to go a bit more with the direction of the fur, so it looks like fur. Cinderpelt and several other images are good examples of this, if a reference would be helpful. Rainlegs 04:57, December 13, 2013 (UTC)

Oh god that took forever I couldn't get it to look right so I completely redid the texture. Emberpoppy7 (talk) 23:18, December 16, 2013 (UTC)

Very good! Curve it a little more along her belly, so it makes a super lop-sided 'u' shape, almost. Just a touch of an upwards curve on our left side. Rainlegs 01:54, December 18, 2013 (UTC)

That better? Emberpoppy7 (talk) 21:11, December 18, 2013 (UTC)

Comments? Emberpoppy7 (talk) 22:22, December 21, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, just like that! Stretch the highlight on the foreleg closest to us all the way to the base of her paw, and add a highlight along the front of both her hind legs. Rainlegs 22:40, December 21, 2013 (UTC)

Reups I didn't add a highlight to her other leg because in my opinion it looked silly. Emberpoppy7 (talk) 01:28, December 22, 2013 (UTC)

Maybe add a tiny one? That leg has nothing in front of it, so it would have a tiny highlight along its front, right below the belly lineart. Rainlegs 18:04, December 22, 2013 (UTC)

Make the belly highlight curve with the lineart ~Scarletwind"Time to go home Flap." 04:24, December 25, 2013 (UTC)

Do you mind dulling the white a bit? Reups just redid the shading - I prefer this a lot more now Sorrel It's everything I dreamed 02:11, December 21, 2013 (UTC)

Blur/soften the edge of the shading more. It's pretty hard-edged to be that dark. Rainlegs 22:31, December 21, 2013 (UTC)

I don't want to do that, it might make it flat. Sorrel It's everything I dreamed 23:58, December 21, 2013 (UTC)

It's too hard-edged right now though, and doesn't look 3D. Look at how a typical sphere is shaded, and note how the transition in shading should be rather soft from light to dark, in a gradual transition. The belly of this cat is virtually a giant, slightly oblong sphere, along with the rest of the cat's body. Rainlegs 07:02, December 22, 2013 (UTC)

Sorrel, I'll have to agree with Leggy. May I ask how you blur? (With what tool?) ☽➸ Hawky Void Shadowshot16:07 Sun Dec 22

I Gaussian blur.Sorrel It's everything I dreamed 16:12, December 22, 2013 (UTC)

I can recommend using the blur tool and changing the opacity to 100%. If you use GIMP, you can do that by going to the bottom of the tool options side and there will be a bar that says "Opacity". Drag that to 100, and you can blur select areas without having to worry about the edges fading away. This being an example. This should solve the problem. ;) ☽➸ Hawky Void Shadowshot16:53 Sun Dec 22

Reups this is as blurred as it can get without being flat. Sorrel It's everything I dreamed 17:41, December 22, 2013 (UTC)

Gaussian blur is good if you're trying to get a base to start with, although most areas to make something look 3D have to be blurred at different rates in different areas. For rounder shapes, it has to be blurred a lot more, while sharper angles, like behind a shoulder or the cheekbones on a face, have sharper lines of shading. On GIMP, for this, I take the fuzziest smudge tool I can get, at about a size of 30 or so, and then smudge the shading slightly, to make it flare out more. Give that a shot, because the last blurring you just did didn't really do much to add to the shape. Rainlegs 17:56, December 22, 2013 (UTC)

Reups I hope this is what you envisioned Sorrel It's everything I dreamed 00:51, December 23, 2013 (UTC)

Are you using the super fuzzy brush? The one that looks the most blurry? If you're using the right tool at the right size it won't look like that; it'll look like you blurred it and smeared it a bit. Rainlegs 00:57, December 23, 2013 (UTC)

It's not working out at all. I see nothing wrong with the last version... Sorrel It's everything I dreamed 02:33, December 23, 2013 (UTC)

I can suggest making different shading layers. ☽➸ Hawky Void Shadowshot15:15 Wed Dec 25

Maybe a larger, more blurry layer under this sharper, thinner one? Your only problem right now is that the shading's too hard-edged to look rounded. Think of the shading on a sphere- the cat's belly's gonna be super round at this point. Rainlegs 03:17, December 26, 2013 (UTC)

Reups I just restarted the shading, using the way you showed me, Legs (I got it decent) save for the face shading, as I thought that looked fine. I've also changed the light source.Sorrel It's everything I dreamed 00:10, December 27, 2013 (UTC)

Well, with the new light source, the facial shading won't make sense. The light's now coming from behind, so there's little to no shading on the face, and whatever there is would look sort of sparse, like Hawk Swoop, almost. Blur the belly shading a little more, as well. This looks gorgeous! Rainlegs 01:28, December 27, 2013 (UTC)

Reups Sorrel It's everything I dreamed 17:31, December 21, 2013 (UTC)

The shading, if covering the shoulder, should cover the entire shoulder, and be equally bold up to the left side (our left) of the lineart defining it, right before the belly. Right now it's lighter along that edge, and gets darker towards a central point. Rainlegs 22:30, December 21, 2013 (UTC)

I don't get what exactly it is you are asking me to do...Sorrel It's everything I dreamed 23:16, December 21, 2013 (UTC)

The entire shoulder section should be covered in shading of equal darkness. Right now, it begins to fade out before it reaches the end of the shoulder. (The thin line separating the foreleg from her belly) There's a super dark spot in the middle of the shoulder right now, and if you're going that dark, then the color needs to be consistent throughout that area. Remove some of the belly's shading or center the facial highlight more, because the angle of the facial highlight suggest the light's coming from her side, instead of directly in front, where the belly suggests. Rainlegs 03:04, December 31, 2013 (UTC)

By the angle you have the facial highlight hitting, then the majority of the belly wouldn't be in light at all. Either remove the belly shading, or shift the facial highlight to be more centered on her face. Also define your shading's depth, as it looks rather single-toned and flat. Re-uploaded. I tried. Jayce(00:41, 12/30/2013)

Alright the facial highlight seems a lot brighter than before, when by "enlarging the facial highlight", I had hoped you would remove more of the outer facial shading. If the top of the back is in highlight, then the forehead is, too. It doesn't sink in there at the brow line, so that the face juts out in front of it, it just softly slopes back, much like the back does. If one's in light, the other one has to be, as well. Blur the belly shading a little more, and add a small highlight to the front of the hind leg farthest from us, as most of that leg is showing, and it wouldn't be covered up by the foreleg closest to us.
